Is sleeping a lot at night normal for pwd?
My parent with dementia goes to bed so early many nights like 730 or 8 pm. I often am right outside of her room at night so I can tell she is sleeping soundly at least for the first few hours. I thought that people with dementia had sleep issues. She usually sleeps like 11 hours. Is this normal? Does this high level of sleep mean anything? It could just be that living with young kids is exhausting. I don't think she had such an early bedtime before she came to live with us.

Can go either way, some sleep more, some less.

My mother often sleeps late into the morning and naps throughout the day. Yes I think it's common for PWD and also, the medications definitely cause drowsiness.

My husband and I moved in with his aunt last year when we noticed she should not be living on her own anymore. I help her get ready for bed at 5:30 and she sleeps until about 8 or 9 in the morning (Sometimes until 10 or 11) and she still goes to bed again at 5:30.

My mom seems to go in cycles for days she will sleep most of the day other periods it’s regular in bed by 8 up by 7 . As long as she is content she can do whatever keeps her that way.
