Hi, my mom is 80 years old and has dementia. Its been hard lately she had a total shoulder replacement in April and then was put back in the hospital for blood clots. It was really scary because we were not sure my mom was going to make it, she was in the ICU for 2 nights. She is better now and back at home, but its been a challenge for me because she lives with my dad and I have a brother and they help. They just don't have the patience with her so I am the main one that takes her to her appointments, makes sure she takes her medication and reminding her on daily basis of various things. Its been challenging because she does get feisty and sometimes can be mean to me. The first time she was mean really took me by suprised,I couldn't believe that was my mom yelling and being mean to me. It really broke my heart. I just hate seeing her this way and I wish I could do more, but I have my own family, I have 2 daughters they are both older one is still in high school and lives at home and I also have a full time job also have anxiety and some type of depression. I am seeing a counselor to help cope with everything, but I am noticing my mom is forgetting more things. What can I do to help her, I buy her word search puzzles, talk to her everyday and trying to get some in home care part time. Its just really alot how do you all deal with this? what type of helping skills do you all use to help them? I am open for any advise and help.
