My mom was diagnosed earlier this year with Alzheimer's / Dementia, my mom has a strong family history of Alzheimer's her grandmother, aunt both were in nursing facilities do to it. Mom has short-term memory problems which her neurologist says isn't uncommon because she is also on Breast Cancer medication and the family history. She was started on Aricept to slow the progression I do not think it's working I think it making things worse. In the last couple weeks / month, she has gone from remember what she did throughout the day and what she was eating to telling me she knows she ate but can't remember what she ate but she did eat. Then starts crying which rips my heart out "I think there is something wrong with my brain" then I get "Please don't put me away". I keep trying to explain to her that she has Alzheimer's you're going to be ok you're not going anywhere unless she becomes a danger to herself. Is there any way I can help my mom remember to eat drink other them writing it down for me like I have been trying to do, because she forgets to write it down. I am trying not to get frustrated or not let her see my frustration.
