Mum with dementia across the pond in England

My mother lives in Bristol England and is currently in a care home, we had to admit her to a care home less than 1/4 mile from her home, she has dementia and has an history of falling.
I live in Eagle Idaho and I talk with her every day, she blames me and my brother for putting her in the care home and every day she tells me she wants to go home.
I was wondering if there are other people on here who have similar situations and how do they deal with it

Hi Dave H,

You might want to contact your local Alliance for Aging to see if there are any real-life or virtual support groups you can join. You can call the number for the Alzheimer's Association as well and ask for the same thing. I say this in case you don't get many replies on here. There are caregivers like you out there who are remote from their parents. My mom lives with me so I can't contribute to your request but there are others out there like you for sure. Sounds like you just need to connect with them.

Hello Dave, I am dealing with similar situation. I live across country from mother, she fell and broke her hip 2/2/26, had surgery to replace with implant. Now is in a rehab/long term care and very confused wants to go home. I am commenting more for support in how painful this is. I’m so sorry you also are going through this. It’s hard to not be with them and balance our lives with their needs. I’m thankful for the facility taking care of her, but the disease of dementia is horrific and I say you’re doing the right thing keeping her safe and cared for.
