Alzheimer's and Diabetes

Hello,
My mother has Alzheimer's and Diabetes. She has done very well in controlling her blood sugar with the help of an insulin pump. Lately though she has started taking the sensor off of her body that controls the flow of insulin. She has done this four times in the last week. Is there any advice on a way to keep it on her?

Hi Cher very similar thread on the parent discussion board. I would talk to her endocrinologist. Short answer- probably not, and sadly may be time to move back to lower tech treatments. Tight control becomes less important while avoiding low blood sugar becomes more important. It's a bad combination because someone else is very likely going to have to start supervising.

    Chergiver,

My DW is a type 1 diabetic and is early stage 6. Her endocrinologist and I had her on Dexcom CGM for a while until she began removing the sensors. I too asked for ideas on how to keep her from removing the sensors, but had to opt for finger sticks and glucometer instead. I miss the continuous data and tighter control. I fully agree with M1. Just so your best to avoid lows and accept looser control.

    Tom
