Hello everyone! I'm new to this website. I've been feeling very alone with my mothers diagnosis. We never really been to close even though I wanted to be. She also has bipolar. It's just been hard and it's difficult to fine people who understand. I feel very alone in this.

I too am in the same situation. My Mom is also bipolar. She has lived with me for years, but dementia has changed her so much. She’s been refusing medication for years, and things have gotten drastically worse in a short period of time. So, apparently we are not alone in our suffering.

I am also new to this website. Please do not feel isolated, as I can relate to that feeling. I have also experienced loneliness at times. I am fortunate to have a very supportive husband and family, which has been incredibly helpful.

Hi and welcome. I am sorry for your reason to be here, but I am pleased you found this place.

The intersection of dementia and mental illness is not an easy place to be— it's complicated. It can be even more challenging if the mental health issues meant the PWD wasn't able to have been the sort of parent you needed and deserved.

Sadly, you are not alone in this.

Hi @Christinez91 you are definitely not alone. It can be a nightmare caring for a parent with mental health issues you were not close with. The key for me seems to be getting help (for me!) and finding support. Caring for someone with dementia is utterly exhausting; for a parent with mental health issues who you weren’t close with? A special kind of exhausting. A lot of us get it. You’ll find lots of good advice reading through posts here. I’m glad you found this website: it’s been a godsend to me.
