Medicare Discharge, observation status & representative status: advise & help video

[also posting in Spouse/partner & Parent sections]

After a call with Medicare that, shall we say, didn't go as expected I researched to plan my next steps and found this video.

There is a no-cost CMS Medicare service called : qio = quality improvement organization that is supplied [as of the video date 2020] by two organizations : Livanta and Kepro [looks like this role is now handled by Accenta per the current map].

They, qio, do not help with appealing medicare coverage but medicare discharges, if in certain settings . The q& a part is especially excellent - talks about being a medicare representative [form CMS 1696], how a discharge can go, what to do about being on observation status , how a hospital can/should discharge a patient with dementia.

They can also help with some communication issues between Dr and patient - examples in video.

q&a starts at time ~46 on the clock. Whole video is terrific - speaker is knowledgeable and explains very clearly. [medicare is complicated - no warranties made by this post :) ]
