Stages of Alzheimer's

I'm new here and new to caring for someone (my 82 year old husband) who just got diagnised with Alzheimer's. Early stages so I know we have a long road ahead of us.

As I read some of the message boards here, I see everyone talking about the stages of the disease and mention stage 8. When I Google the stages, I only find references to stages 1-7. What am I missing? Can someone post a link to something that shows the 8 stages? thanks

Quilting brings calm

stage 8 is a colloquial term for the period of the caregiver’s life after their person with dementia passes away. As far as I know it’s not a term you will find other than on forums such as this one.

welcome. So sorry for the reason you are here. There are 7 Stages, however everyone progresses differently due to the area of the brain affected & other factors. Someone could have behaviors in more than one Stage which is why most doctors don’t talk stages. I would start a list of his behaviors to take to his doctors. Don’t show it to him. The list will help you communicate with the doctors. Read the book “The 36 Hour Day” which helped me. Contact an attorney right away and get Durable Power of Attorney and Medical Power of Attorney. Don’t wait. Come here often for info & support.
