helping a parent who lives far away

I talk to my mom everyday. She is not the same person I used to know. She has limited vocabulary and has forgotten things about my childhood. I try to engage her in easy conversations and make the phone calls meaningful. Are they supposed to be meaningful to me? or to her? I feel lost.

My mum is on the other side of the world. She won't remember in the afternoon that I called her in the morning. I find the communication meaningful, although she won't remember the content as we pretty much have the same conversation over and over again. How are the kids, how is the weather, etc. Sometimes we go around the houses twice in one call! I believe she remembers the feeling of sharing news

Hi just found out my husband is diagnosed with Dementia. I have been crying almost everyday with the shocking information. I don't want to talk to others (family, friends) because of my crying and I can not dry out to engage in conversation.
