Questions about Medicaid

Hello everyone, hope everyone is OK and hanging in there.  I was wondering  if any one can steer me in the right direction  with Medicaid for placement  for my mom. She was approved for a state run veterans  home actually  where I worked  for many years.and is on the list which is long.. I would like to get her into a NH that is closer to where I live which would be 1 mile but it is not run by the veterans. How much of a nightmare is Medicaid  when it comes to being eligible for NH placement. She has  no assets, lives with me. No savings just a checking where her SS And VA pension are deposited. I am her POA for medical and financial. I believe she is over the allotted 2200 a month. I live in PA. Thanks so much for your  help.

    Neverends-

The best answer is seeing a CELA. PA Medicaid will only fund a SNF, so she will need to meet the criteria for that level of care.

I'm in PA, dad had some assets which allowed us to start him in a MCF with a sister SNF should he outlive his money. Being able to self-pay for a year or two is a common requirement for a Medicaid bad at some places. Our county-run SNF is one of the few places that doesn't do this. It's a well run and well regarded facility.

I was very impressed by the state VA home near me (Phila); but the waitlist didn't work for us. It was my top choice for dad but I feel the masculine atmosphere wouldn't be a good fit for my mom.

Hello, as far as I know. Dementia or Alzheimer's is a disability and she would be eligible. However check your state's eligibility for Medicaid. Good luck.
