Mood change and agitation

Hi,

my mom was doing that. Her mood could change in like 30 seconds or less. Unfortunately we have conflicting information on what her diagnosis is. First it was LBD, then I was told not she have psychosis, now they think she may have FTD. So to be honest they can have a number of diagnosis. Now she was put on hardol and seems to have helped. But I am not sure if this medication is right for everyone.

Hi! Yes.. I have had this happen before with my father. I haven’t spoken to the doctor about it yet. He will be completely fine, and then flip and be argumentative, accusatory, etc. I’m planning on asking the Dr if there is a medication that can be given for these episodes so that he can relax/nap.

Unfortunately that is part of the disease...mood swings.

My father, who was a gentle and peaceful man throughout his life, at times would get agitated.

We must remember it is the DISEASE that causes mood swings/changes, not them. They are not doing it on purpose.

Fortunately I live in Colorado so we were able to give my father CBD and products with THC to help him when he had those moods swings.

There are medications that doctors can and will prescribe; however, I caution you on one in particular...Gabapentin. Beware of Gabapentin and its side effect.

Doctors prescribed my father Gabapentin to help with the behavior modification and it basically made him a vegetable: unable to get out of bed nor could he talk, he was incoherent. Doctors and nurses at the hospital told us it was the disease; however, after I researched the side-effects of Gabapentin I knew immediately it was the medication and not the disease that caused him to go from walking to completely bedridden in under 30 days.

Hello everyone
This is my first time on this forum. Your posts have helped me tremendously. I feel as though I’m losing my mind. My mom is normally happy and content until I tell her I have to leave for work. She cries, and scream while telling me that I don’t care about her. She said she’s afraid to be alone. We have placed cameras in and outside of her residence
She has an alarm. I’m paying her neighbor to come and keep her company. I don’t know what else to do.
I have to work and I have a family. She only want me to sit with her. Is the her dementia or is she manipulating me. She doing a great job at making me feel guilty. Please share your thoughts🥲
