I believe is my first time posting. My loved one will be 60 in April. He was diagnosed five years ago, but of course symptoms were prior to that. I have MS and really can no longer care for him at home. I’m having difficulties even leaving the house to go to work Because he follows me all the time. I’ve looked into Memory adult care but he won’t stay. I’m in the process of looking for long-term care because of his age. A lot of places don’t want to take him. Has anyone had this difficulties or has anyone placed up one who was young in a long-term care facility? Any help would be appreciated.

It can be hard to find a facility willing to accept a man who is younger because of the presumed risks associated with a resident who is presumably stronger and may act on sexual impulses. My dad was older, but denied admission to mom's first choice based on the reputation for challenging behavior associated with his particular diagnosis. Places do discriminate.

A local IRL support group or a care manager might be helpful in finding a place for him. Good luck.

welcome dmatos1966; You do have an unusual circumstance. The adult day placement would be ideal , sorry it didn’t work out. Do you think he would accept a daily home companion ? I agree with the above comment, a care manager might have good suggestions .

have you tried the Alzheimer’s Org toll free number listed above? They may have resources to assist. Ask his doctor if they have a Case Manager who can help. My step dad just had a stroke and lives alone and his Case Manager has been a great help.
