Sometimes I forget what stage he is in. I think I do alot of scaffolding without realizing it. Today I went back and looked at his test results. Not good. He has both VD and Ad. It was just a reality check.

Yes, and that’s one of MY problems. After all this time, I still get tripped up. I honestly revert back to normalcy and the Boom…not normal. It creates so much undue heartache. I cannot seem to accept no matter how hard I try💕💙

Guilty of this for sure. Don’t think I’ll ever fully accept it even though I know it’s true. Even now I still Google diseases that could mimic dementia just in case.

While sleeping, I have always dreamed vividly and remember many of them. In my dreams there is no dementia, no care giving, no constant shadowing. My dreams are a form of respite. When I wake up from a vivid dream it takes a moment to reorient and fill my mind with my awake reality.
A couple times in the past year dementia has crept into my dreams.
I am curious if there are others who for whom dementia has become part of their dreams at night.

yes. It’s a defense mechanism. I was in denial. People on this forum kept telling me to do things and I put them off. Sometimes it’s too much for our brains to accept. Then something happens to slap us into reality. 💜

I think because I am with my LO every single day I don’t realize how much my LO is progressing through this disease. It takes a family member or friend to tell me how much she has changed from their last visit.

My wife is in MC and sometimes I still try to have a meaningful conversation with her. It never works and only causes me to get a little depressed. I know she can't do it, but I sometimes hope that maybe today even if it is just for one day. It is odd how I can know and except what is, most of the time then fall back into hoping for what can never be once in a while. She was diagnosed 9 years ago. I am slow to learn.

Ronda b,
My heart breaks for you and is in agreement with you at the same time. My logic and emotions seem to be in battles on a regular basis. My DH is in MS after dealing with signs of dementia for 3.5 yrs. PS…..This forum is WONDERFUL! TODAY Is my FIRST DAY with you dear ones! What a genius platform for caregivers to “gather” when we are so busy caring for our LO and ALL duties of running a household and both of our health/medical/MENTAL/EMOTIONAL needs. Thank you!
