"I'm leaving to go home"

I am new to this forum. In September 2024, We took in my MIL who has Alzheimer's, stage 5. All in all things are going well. She always is trying to go pack up her belongings and get ready to go "Home". We do tell her that she lives with us now, she's safe and redirect her to something else, walk, go out for a drive etc. But she always circles back to going home. Any advice?

    I have the same problem with my husband. Every day he says he needs to go home. I can't find a way to redirect him. Nothing works. He's worse in the afternoon/evening. I hope someone can give us both suggestions.

    Thank you very much for the videos. I will work on these ideas with my MIL and see if I can reduce her anxiety and need to go home.

    home is not a place for them, it’s a feeling. Nothing will stop her from asking it every day. Just repeat the techniques and hope something hells. If it upsets her, medication may decrease her anxiety and help.

    My wife didn't just want to go "home", she tried to walk there several times a day. Sometimes I would go with her and lead her back to the house. Other times I would follow her in the car for a couple of miles before picking her up.

    One time my grandmother, who had never been able to walk any distance, tried to go "home" to another state. The police brought her back from about eight miles away, and then my dad moved her into a locked facility.
