robotic pets - again

There are older threads that discuss the positive effects of giving a LOWD a robotic pet, such as a Joy For All puppy. I'm curious to know how long that batteries last.

We had two, a dog and cat. The batteries last a long time. Unfortunately, both of them stopped working within a year. They are very soothing for LO but even with no rough treatment, ours just did not last. At $125, I would have expected better quality.

I have had the Joy for All cat since Sept. but was able to get it for $85 on special from Amazon. I haven’t had to replace the batteries. DH thinks it’s real and likes it, but we basically have it sitting on a chair and he pets it and talks to it once in a while now. So it’s probably not using much battery power since it’s not being handled much. I’m not sure I’d buy it again if I had to pay $125. Not sure what alternatives there are out there.

I gave my mother the Joy for All robotic dog. She absolutely loves it. As much as she interacts with it, I have been pleasantly surprised by the battery life. I gave it to her in June 2024 and just replaced the batteries yesterday.

My friend's mom had hers for at least 18 months. It was almost always in her lap if she was sitting down.

Dad's MCF had a couple. Dad never used one and he did really like cats. But mom, who doesn't have dementia, couldn't keep her hands off them if we were in the DON's office discussing care.

I told my friend about them when her real cats started to avoid her mom who liked to yell at them when they didn't sit with her. She was talking about it with a cousin who is a librarian whose library has them in their collection. They tried it with mom. It was a success, so my friend bought one to replace it. You might want to see if your library offers them.
