Asst Living-VS-??

We recently placed my mother in an Assisted Living facility. She had a heart attack and the doctors said “she can’t live alone anymore, we don’t believe she is managing meds correctly among other things.” And honestly, they were right and we were already on this path, this just sped it up.
Physically, she is fine. But we are in the (diagnosed) stage of Alzheimers where there is little to no short term memory. She gets anxious, frustrated, and lashes out (at me).
So while this assisted living place has many things that are great (meds dispensed, meals served, laundry done, activities), she forgets that most of that happens.
I don’t think she needs full service long term care, but is there something in between? Like an assisted living that takes a more hands on approach? Is memory care only offered in long term care facilities?
I’m so new to this and just wondered if I haven’t found all the options. She is on medicaid so the options were already limited.

Memory care is usually to midpoint of care..Assisted living, Memory Care, then Nursing home care. Each facility will have its own services + structure. Some ALs can be very hands on (for a price) so you will just have to find a facility that will meet your needs. You can generally get a feel for what they offer with a phone call.
There are some states that license people to have a very limited number of residents in a home-like atmosphere. I’m not sure what they are called or what states you can have these
