Dementia discussion

Hi All,
I am new to this site and wondered if my experience resembles anyone else's. So far, I have had the following tests, which all came out ok. CT Angiogram, EEG Brainwave, Echo Cardiogram, PET Scan, Ankle Brachial, and Heart Monitor. The initial discussion with the doctor is Dementia. Also, what are the common medications people take to improve their memory? I am trying to get a list of questions and things to discuss with my doctor, and I feel like I am flying blind. Thank you so much.

I suggest you try the Alzheimer's Association website in the "Navigate Treatment Options" section, see the link below. I find this presents a useful list of options.
After my diagnosis of AD, I started treatment with Aricept (pill format) and Leqembi (bi-weekly infusions).0 -
Is the doctor a neurologist?
Did the doctor give you any cognitive tests where you have to remember things and follow instructions?
Was the PET scan an amyloid PET scan?
Did they check thyroid function and vitamin B12 levels?
Are you on any medication for anxiety or depression?
From the experience my wife had, tests you mention don’t necessarily narrow down to a diagnosis of dementia.

During your first visit with a Neurologist specializing in AD, he will ask your family history of any memory loss in family ("any family member with or had AD?"), then he'll have you do the "Clock Test" to determine the level of you visual spatial abilities are. Next, along with this test, he'll have you walk down a long hallway a couple of times to observe your gait (for me, I tend to veer to the right). Then he will order a genetic labwork, "Apolipoprotein E Mutation - Cardiac." My results came back with "e3/e4 Genotype which puts me at high risk for AD, BUT that test alone does not suffice for a diagnosis. My doctor did order a CAT scan to detect Brain Atrophy and it did show significant Atrophy on frontal lobe and temporal lobes of my brain. Therefore my Neuro doctor scheduled me for a second Genetic lab test, "Precivity AD2" test, which would either confirm AD or Rule it out AD. The result came back and Ruled out AD, raising high concern by my Neuro doctor that I may have FTD. Final test was an FGD PET SCAN, you have radioactive fluid given intravenously which provides a MUCH Clearer distinction of hypometabolism in the brain and where in the brain its occuring, mine is occuring in frontal lobes and temporal lobes. On that day he received the FDG PET SCAN REPORT, I wrote my diagnosis of FrontalTemporal Dementia. I was prescribed Mementine and had to stop due to alergic reaction. I also tried Donepesal, but was also alergic and had to stop. I have to say with ALL HONESTY, the ONE Medication for a different condition, which helps me FOCUS (I'm also ADHD) is Methylphenedate (Ritalin), it's GOLD!
