Awareness of condition

My DW lapsed into the lost memory phase, and had a particularly hard time. She still knew me but said she felt lost. This made me wonder if she had any awareness that something is wrong.

It's hard to say. With my dad, he did have some sense of his memory issues in the early and early-middle stages. He had little awareness of more subtle changes like his loss of empathy, poor reasoning skills, apathy, executive function deficits and spatial reasoning difficulties. His anosognosia prevented him from being able to appreciate how profound his impairment was.

My DW has essentially no memory, long or short, but every once in a while she would say, "Something's wrong with my brain. I don't remember anything."

My wife was very good at hiding her symptoms. I had no clue until her shop steward called to tell me she was having problems at work. She continued to keep hiding them as long as she could realize that she did have problems. Eventually it was no longer possible, and she no longer realized that she had any.
