Alzheimer’s research comments by RFKJr

RFK Jr says corruption at NIH is the SOLE REASON there isn’t a cure for Alzheimer’s:
“For 20 years, because of utter corruption and fraud, we were directing Alzheimer’s research to one hypothesis, and any other hypothesis was shut down.
We should have the cure for Alzheimer’s today. We don’t have it PURELY because of corruption at NIH. And we are going to have it quickly.” 💜🙏.

we can only hope.

I wonder how he will change it? Who will do the research and with what money? I wish there was a cure! I follow news out of the Netherlands who seem so much further not only in research but how they care for dementia. Nobody in the world has a cure right now so not sure we can blame corruption at NIH. If only that was the hold up

Should we believe someone who swims in polluted creeks with his grandkids, was a heroin addict for 16 years, has a brain worm, and eats road kill?

I would not trust anything RFK JR says.

The man has no credibility nor medical training.

I don't think JFK is the most credible person. I would be very surprised if any money gets spent on medical research.

I am no fan of RFK, Jr., but his remarks about Alzheimer's may have a point. The amyloid hypothesis has not done much to explain the disease or create really effective therapies.
Ed1937 posted something here yesterday that bears reading: <https://scitechdaily.com/scientists-discover-hidden-cause-of-alzheimers-hiding-in-plain-sight/>.
A recent study has revealed that a gene previously identified as a biomarker for Alzheimer’s disease is not just a marker, it is a direct cause of the disease. Researchers at the
University of California, San Diego
discovered that the gene plays a previously unrecognized secondary role that actively drives the development of Alzheimer’s. Using artificial intelligence, the team was able to uncover this hidden function and identify a potential therapeutic strategy to block the gene’s harmful activity.

It would be wonderful if he were correct, however…..

thank goodness someone is talking about Alzheimer’s and reminding all we need to find a cure or prevention. Whether we like RFK or not, the fact he is talking about this and bringing awareness is better than nothing

If we could get $400,000,000 for research instead of for a gold-plated airplane . . .

RFK himself said in Congressional testimony this week that “No one should take medical advice from me”. Why again is he running NIH and directing priorities of the world’s best-educated and most advanced medical researchers? Big fail, no matter what side of the aisle you look at it from. Whether you support Trump or not, he should look for someone better qualified for making enormous life-and-death decisions that affect all of us and our loved ones.

Thank you for pointing out that credibility has to be considered. The source here is definitely not someone I would ever listen to!

Thank you for stating the obvious!
