    Thank you for this! Tears are streaming down my face because I realize I am NOT always doing those things. I will print this out and read it every morning as a beautiful reminder of what he is going through.

    "the best of me is gone"

    I was attracted to my DW because of how compassionate and empathetic a person she is. Now, well into stage 6, her compassion and kindness are still there. We will be at the walmart while she is speaking to the air with nonsense chatter and then suddenly stop to give the kindest and most coherent complement to a stranger. My DW cannot dress, bath, or follow a simple instruction, but the best of her is still in there and making regular appearances.

    Otherwise, a very touching poem🙂
