Recent Diagnosis for my wife. Seeking local support groups. Seattle

I am 68, my wife is 72. We are in Seattle. She was recently diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, though I would place her at the upper end of that diagnosis. I tried to call to get pre-screened for caregiver support group. After waiting a while, the line went dead, then dropped. This year, our son had a brain tumor, a 12.5-hour operation, went back to work, but had a seizure on his first day back. He has also gone deaf and was fired. The courts have determined he was fired illegally, and now it is back to the courts for a settlement. Then, my wife was diagnosed. It's been a hell of a year. I could really use some sort of group to talk this through. Will keep working toward that.

I, too, am in Seattle and im caring my DH who hasn't been diagnosed with anything more than mild cognitive impairment. He is so beyond mild but pcp hasn't gone any further. We see a neurologist in July and im hoping for a better diagnosis. (I made the appointment in January and worry that he won't agree to go by the time July comes around)

I don't know about support groups but when my dad was in memory care in Issaquah (1999-2000) they had a group that met there. It was open to families of non residents. I wonder if one of the large facilities in town might do the same?

Also, local Alzheimer's Association may be able to direct you.

This site helps me immensely but sometimes you want to see others face to face. I get that. I hope you find what you need.

On the third Wednesday of every month, I participate in a Zoom meeting with other men whose wives have dementia. All forms of dementia, all stages, and we are all across the country. I am also on the Lorenzo zoom meeting the third Wednesday of the month. Great bunch of guys. Get registered and we will see you on the 21st of this month. It starts at 7:00 CT so for you and me it is 5:00 PT.
