    I think you can forgive yourself for this one. You responded at the time based on the best information you had at hand. Caregivers are not omniscient, although all of us wish for that!

    Can you just tell your mom that you found the club soda she was looking for? If she begins a discussion of the earlier conversation, you can tell the truth: “I was surprised to see it because I haven’t seen you drink that in years.” If there’s no discussion, you can skip that part.

    How did she acquire the club soda? Bottles should be dated .

    Is she driving, handling money- with her history of near misses with the scammers sounds like you need to protect her from herself .

    It's hard with a parent - they sound like that authority voice that raised us but their brain is changing and dementia damage is more than memory - it is reasoning , judgement etc.

    Even if no one on earth can say your name with that parental edge :) it is becoming time for you to step in . She won't know when it is time to stop driving, handling money etc.
