Good morning community,

I just connected to this support group. My 86 yo dad is struggling more each day with memory loss. He has always had some sort of learning disability and suffers from profound hearing loss. The increasing level of dementia is complicating daily interactions. I have a sister who lives 5 minutes from him, whereas I live 45. My weekly visits are now a reset. He doesn't remember the prior visit. I suppose my emotions are varying from guilt from not being available as much and guilt at getting frustrated with him. It is difficult to sort which actions are related to dementia and which are from his general stuborness.

    Hi Christyb - welcome to 'here', but sorry for the reason.

    Yeah, you'll have days like that - don't know which direction he's coming from. Do keep in mind that either way, he probably can't help it any more, anyway. We went through a time like that with MIL… it almost seemed she was doing some things 'on purpose'. We just go with the flow. It's all you can do.

    Do make sure his paperwork is in order, though - DPOA and HIPAA accesses are important.
