Update on Jo C

I’m reaching out on behalf of my mom, who most of you will know as “Jo C”. She hasn’t been online for a while, and I know that some in the community have been wondering how she’s doing. I’ve always respected her privacy here, so, while I’ve technically been a “member” for about 14 years, I’ve only ever stopped by quietly every few years and have never posted or commented until recently.
Many of you are aware of her lung condition. It is progressing and it is making her quite ill, as we knew it would. She is currently home with my dad. One of my brothers lives close by and I have come from out of state for an extended stay to help. We also have professional support to help us manage her care.
Mom is currently too tired and weak to write or engage, though her mind remains sharp and she has a say (and the final word) in her care. You know how she feels about that if you’ve known her for any length of time! She hasn’t been up for any kind of lengthy conversation, including phone calls. Medications have contributed to a foggy head so she is a bit out of it at times and it’s hard to have a full conversation with her right now—short sentences and lots of rest. (She has, however, rolled her eyes at me exasperatedly a few times. A small victory as far as I’m concerned!)
I have scrolled through some of her communications over the past few years and am so proud of her. A tremendous supporter and advocate for others. I have let her know that many of you have been wondering how she is doing and have read some of your recent messages to her, which have made her smile. She knows each of your names as I have read them to her. It has truly uplifted her and reminds her how much this community means to her after close to 20 years!
She wants you to know that she is touched and thanks each of you for the care and support and the kindness you have shown her—it truly means a great deal to her.
Warmly,
~Jo C’s Daughter

Thanks for the update! We often wonder why a poster is MIA and usually very hard to think positive in regards to the answer. Wishing your mom all the best. We can't help much, but she's in our thoughts and prayers.
