I’m so confused

My husband has been declining physically and I believe, mentally. He used to be so strong, capable, easygoing and sensible. He now can no longer walk with me. Only a few years ago, I had a hard time keeping up with his pace, but now even at a stroll, he lags behind and is always worried about falling. He is not disabled, but for hearing loss due to environmental and aging factors. However, he has fallen and injured his skin on his solo walks and wears gloves in case he falls. The hearing loss has been a problem for us for some time now, leading to frequent fights. He used to appreciate me but has become increasingly verbally and emotionally abusive. I am afraid of the monster who is inhabiting his body. This is not the man I got involved with decades ago, and it has me at my wits end.

    Has he been to see his primary physician recently. That would probably be your first step.

    Your personal Dr is your first step and be certain that the Dr has a list of your concerns well before an appointment.

    welcome. What is your husbands age and has he been diagnosed with dementia? If not, get him in to see his doctor right away and get a referral to a Neurologist.

    AFTD - The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration

    There are different kinds of dementia and not just alzheimers - other types can present with different symptoms first (physical, emotional and personality changes.)

    This forum is a great resource with many kind and knowledgeable people.
