Refusing to go back to MC when we take her out

we have had to take Mom out for various things and aides took her to AL side for events. Today she refused to go back to MC and got really nasty with the staff about it. My brother had to go and get her calmed down. Any tips for getting your LO back to MC when they resist? I see no signs of mis treatment and we visit regularly, I think she just wants to stay with her friends in AL but this worries me.

the MC aides should know how to redirect or distract her. Ice cream worked for my husband. If she continues to become agitated, it might be better not to take her out of the MC area anymore. Also is she on medication for anxiety? If not, you might talk to the doctor.

thank you for sharing. I wish she could enjoy these visits to AL but alas this disease takes more joy away. She is on anxiety meds that have been increased recently by dr. Seems it is still a trigger that might need to be avoided. Treats are a good option. I am afraid to take her anywhere now so will keep that in mind if needed

If outings end with upset, it may be necessary to stop those deemed "treats".
We had this concern with dad, he had one medical appointment that couldn't be managed by the facility's affiliated geriatric doc, so we hired medical transport. He tended to be more compliant among professionals in their work uniforms— especially the younger, physically imposing men.

it’s so hard to watch as our loved ones can’t do the things that are enriching their lives. It sucks. But it is part of this disease.
The outings to AL may be becoming too much for her. im so sorry. The only good news is it sounds like you have a good facility. You’ll find other things that she enjoys. As the disease progresses (this was hard for me) our loved ones need a lot less stimulation. They like routine and familiarity. It’s counterintuitive but when I realized my mom no longer benefitted from the external activities I was so desperate she have access to, we found a rhythm. For what it’s worth, my mom has been content - sometimes even relatively happy - in MC for nearly a year. I never thought it would happen, but it absolutely has. Hang in there.1
