In reading the posts here about this drug, it appears that it is given for those that are not sleeping at night. It was prescribed to my DH for hallucinations. The man does not have trouble sleeping at all. Just a few episodes when he had too much coffee or has had long naps during the day. Is this something that will work for his hallucinations? There has been a big change in him in just six months. First he saw bugs in December and had an invisible audience when he would practice his bass now he has full on apparitions of groups people sitting in our house, stealing from him, sees them sleeping with me… "taking advantage" of me, hanging out by the windows so they can take pictures of him and his stuff so on. Today "they" pulled up in a "boat" (we do live in Florida but not on the water). He was standing in the kitchen yelling at them at the top of his lungs. I take him to every door and they're all locked, I actually make him try and open it so he knows it's locked and tell him that no one can get in our house. He does this over and over, I can't jump down that rabbit hole every day. I'm at my wits end! I'm just worried that this Quetiapine is more crap to make him worse like late last year he was prescribed  (mirtazapine) 30 mg dose for the bug apparitions and he was wasted. He couldn't even talk, couldn't get to the toilet - a real party at 3am. He only took it the one time, just one dose and 3 days after that I found him wandering up our street he said people threw him out of our house while I was at work (I'm home now, had to quit my job 🙄) It went from bugs and audience to red alert they're after me - night and day! WT actual Hell? I don't think I am handling the hallucination situation all that well and dude, really, I'm in over my head!

Those are antipsychotic medications. Different people respond differently to various antipsychotics, and a doctor has to try several sometimes to find one or a combination that is effective. In your shoes, I would give the meds a try for a few weeks and call the doctor if they don't work or have severe side effects.

    Good luck.

Hi jbrocks. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this situation. My DH had delusions and hallucinations when his Dr prescribed Seroquel. It helped tremendously with the hallucinations and a little with the delusions as well as his sleeping all night after taking them. He started with 25mg at bedtime, but increased to 50mg in the morning and 50mg in the evening. The hallucinations are gone but the delusions continued although not as bad. The Dr just prescribed Lorazepam to help with the anxiety associated with the delusions. But everyone is different … what works for one makes another person worse. I sure hope your DH responds to it as well as mine did.
I’m also sorry you had to quit your job. This full-time caregiving is quite the challenge, but knowing we’re all in this together is somewhat comforting.

Hang in there and keep working with his doctor until he gets the right combination (hopefully soon).

Your situation sounds very scary. I know it is so hard to do this, but you could call 911 when he is having an episode, and they take him to the hospital and admit him until they come up with the right combination of meds to control the angry episodes. I hope you find a solution soon.

I'm so sorry that you are dealing with that too. Mine was my soulmate as well - we talked about our retirement plans and how much fun we were going to have, now he follows me around the house talking to the "people" that want to take me away from him. He sees creatures non-stop and hallucinates every single day, there's always someone sitting in the living room taking up all the seats. Children in our back yard. We don't have kids and our back yard is locked by two gates - one on each side of the house. If I fall asleep while he's awake he wakes me up because he thinks I'm leaving him. His health is great and he gets a good blood work up twice a year, his brain no so much.
