Sunny and dry here again today, high about 90. I'm taking DS to the podiatrist this afternoon and he'll stay through the 4th to watch the firework show with me. Have a great day!

Thank you but my incontinence is permanent. I was in the hospital in Feb and march and June it was the flu in Feb and March and viral pneumonia in June like I said I'm still not back. When I go out I wear diapers but at least I can still go out. My problem is I cannot go visit my wife my wheel chair will not go through the door but my wife visits me when she can.
I posted a reply that we miss him on the porch. I think of him often, as well as all of you here. Judith I pray you are doing better.

Good morning Rockers.
Lorita. Thank you for the update on Judith. I hope she's feeling better, and we hear from her soon. Do you watch Wagon Train on the INSP channel? I watch that channel a lot.
HB. You mention you had a bestie, that turns to you, it's nice she has a bestie to turn to, mine passed away 3 years ago, and I sure do miss her. I hope your mom gets her AC, fixed, your a good daughter. I'm like her I don't like making cold phone calls to people, but I will if it's a maintenance issue. Sorry you had a bad day with the train. Traveling between cities on public transportation, do people get stuck in places at times? I was in San Francisco, years ago, and had to get to the airport to get to Sacramento, I had to take a Subway, I had no idea what that was, I was told to go down those stairs, that was a weird feeling going underground, and seeing the trains.
JeriLynn. Those daisies are beautiful, I wish I could grow flowers. Problem is I don't give them enough water or I overwater them. I love cobbler, now I want a blueberry cobbler, I added that to my grocery list.
Carl. Speaking of old computer's. I worked in a bank 60 years ago and my job was processing all the deposits through a big NCR, proof machine, it was as big as a Volkswagen Bug. Then years later I worked in a resort, I would go into a room, only one could go in, because of body heat. That's where I pushed buttons on all the credit card machines, to start the processing. I was told, someday, computer's would be taking over my job. I said Your Crazy. 😂 😂
I was asked a while back, if my balance was getting better with yoga. Tuesday, was the harder day, I did lose my balance and fall, but it was on a stack of blankets. Today is the stretching and relaxing yoga day, and i like this day, it works out the soreness i got on Tuesday. I'm really liking yoga.
Good day to all, Hugs Zetta

Good morning everyone.
Yes, David is back from his hospitalizations. He had a nice visit to a military museum. I hope he can get back on this thread.
Zetta, my friend loses her balance and falls. In fact she is now at a rehab facility for PT to help her balance. I have read that Tai Chi is good for balance. Have you ever tried that? Do you use a cane or walker to ambulate?

Good afternoon. It's bright and sunny here. We're due to have lovely weather for the 4th.
Zetta— I'm sorry for the loss of your bestie. I would be bereft without her nonsensical daily updates. I'm glad you're enjoying yoga still.
Iris— Mom's pulmo "prescribes" tai chi for all his patients. His mom and dad have been doing it for years. They offer it where mom lives, but she's not a joiner which is a shame. She did agree to PT for balance. Turns out most of her falls were the result of weakness in her core and hips. It's helped her a lot even if I grumbled twice a week about making it happen.

Busy day here. I had a dental appointment. I got an excellent report from the hygienist but the dentist wants to replace a filling and crown a tooth with a larger ancient filling. DH is getting a crown next month. I'm a little suspicious of this new guy as it's always something to treat with him and am considering my old guy.
From there I saw the hand surgeon. She's allowing me to wean off the splint during the day and have graduated to OT. I'm shocked at how stiff my wrist is from 2 months of inactivity. We talked about prevention as the risk of a recurrence is considerable given my arthritis. I have been banned from hauling heavy cases, downward-facing dog, and straight-armed planks for life.
Bestie's daughter is no longer speaking with her mom. DD is pregnant with twins due to be delivered in 2 weeks. DD's BP is elevated; her team is monitoring her very closely and feel the babies are safer in than out at this point. Their mom is comfortable with that plan. Bestie is concerned about pre-eclampsia developing so she feels the babies need to be delivered today. Too much Downton Abbey with that one. Last night bestie rapid-fired her opinions on DD who has since gone radio-silent. DD is understandably anxious and sensibly decided to disengage lest her mom burden her with her anxiety as well. Ultimately this will work out, but I'll have more phone calls until the dust settles.
I hope you all have a pleasant evening.

JeriLynn66 I love the photos. There’s something very cheerful about the flowers. Makes me regret not spending more time in the garden these days. My plants are looking pretty pitiful this year.
You also brought back wonderful memories of my mom’s blackberry cobbler. My brother and I would pick as many as we could carry and couldn’t wait for dinner to be over because the warm cobbler was waiting. We lived in a rural setting so blackberries were plentiful. I now live in the city where berries are mostly available in the store or the local farmers markets. There are some bushes alongside a nearby road but I worry about chemicals the city may be spraying so I don’t want to risk it. But I do think a cobbler is in my future.
I can almost smell it baking now :)

Hello.
Iris. I don't use a walker or a cane. I walk just fine. I lose my balance at times, when I move to fast around corners. The reason I feel at yoga was it was a up and down position. I just need to be more careful. I have not head about Thi Chi, maybe if i get tired of yoga I will check it out.
HB. We always feel comfortable with the old guy. Can the old guy give you a second option. Then you will feel better. I'm glad my dental procedure is over, now I just need to get comfortable with the dentures. I just need to ware them more. 🤔😬 I look funny, being a old lady with all those white teeth. It's probably best that bestie and her DD don't speak for awhile. Be careful with your wrist.
Jehjeh. I can smell your blackberry cobbler right now. Yum.
Good evening to all. Hugs Zetta

Lorita - I'm relieved you got that text from Judith. Hopefully she'll be able to post soon.
Is Walking With Dinosaurs on netflix? How do you watch it? I think Spinosaurus is the new hotness. It's a very cool dinosaur, probably made cooler thanks to the Jurassic Park movies (which I just can't bear to watch due to so much inaccurate info).
JeriLynn - I love your dawn photos - the one from today was gorgeous. It's a time I never see - unless I'm seeing it from the back end.
Oddly, or maybe not so oddly, my favorite dawn and sunset experiences happen when I'm driving over the mountain pass by Mt. Shasta. The way the light plays off of the snow on Mt. Shasta …… it's just magical.
HB - I'll be cremated as well. I want my sarcophagus!
About our moms — you're probably right, a big part of that behavior is Silent Generation stuff.
That train trip with your mom sounds like a day from hell. I'm glad it all worked out though in the end. And yeah, your train mate's family probably had an even worse day. As someone who used to regularly take BART and MUNI in the SF Bay Area - trains are great - until something happens. Then it's a nightmare.
Carl and Lorita - If I can get away with not driving in cities, I do it. I will always take the train over driving - and I love driving. But man, many people are horrible drivers, don't pay attention to signs, do random things … I'd rather just avoid it.
Hi Beth! Limeade - one of my favorite things to drink in the summer. Is a walking taco the same thing as a street taco?
Caro_Lynne - Thank you for sharing David's post, even if it is beyond heartbreaking.
Zetta - If you took the underground to the San Francisco airport, you were on BART. I used to make that trip all the time. Sometimes the stars would align and I'd have a perfect trip. Usually there was no alignment. 🙂
You are so right about us always being comfortable with the old guy. I know I am!
I'm so glad you're loving yoga.
I'm sorry about the loss of your bestie. I know I'd be lost without mine.
I can tell that today is the day before a holiday - my phone has been quiet and so has my email, well except for the robocalls and the spam.
Hope all of you have a wonderful 4th, however you celebrate it.

We used to.have.lots.of blackberry and Dewberry vines but spraying has killed them, however there are some around the tub in the corral. I used to pick them and made many quick cobblers with them. Also used to pick them along the sides of roads. Grandma made lots of two crust cobblers and we ate them with cream.
Zetta, I also get Wagon Train on INSP tv. I watch it a lot of time. A few years ago there were Tai Chi lessons on tv. I tried it for quite a while and enjoyed it but have never been as sore from it except the first night of bowling. I think it is really pretty and has such grateful movements.
I posted this and decided to add something so lost the last paragraph, whatever it was. GG. Walking with Dinosaurs is on our Oklahoma educational channel KOED. There's another one tonight at 2. I will, hopefully, be asleep. The story they showed last night about the Spino. was so sweet about him taking care of the four babies, however turned sad when he had caught something to feed them and another Spino. fought.him for it and injured him so.badly that he died after giving the food to the babies. I cried.
Just watched Independence Day. Saw it a long time ago but had forgotten a lot of it.
Time for bed so will say good night. Judith, hope you are feeling better. Rest and take care.

Good Morning and Happy 4th of July Porch Friends!
The day is about to get away from me already. I have Salted Caramel brownies in the oven for later today. My DD and her grown children + my 6 yr old great grand are coming today. The menu is an easy one. Hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, chicken, pork tenderloin, potato salad, chips, dips, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries and the brownies. I think I may have another mess of blackberries so maybe a cobbler - we'll see.
We cut grass yesterday, went to Tullahoma for DH's allergy shots, Tractor Supply, the bank, the grocery store (2 of them), drop-off gifts to 2 grandkid households (one needed new drapes which I got and one needed decor for his newly painted bedroom), a visit with another set of grands to help with budgeting (they drive me nuts) and Finally home to finish cleaning for today. We leave Sunday for the little camping trip so I'll finish up that prep tomorrow.
Caro - thank you for posting about David. I'm sad he's no longer on the porch and wish we could 'talk" to him.
GG - Sunrise over Mt. Shasta !!!! Fantastic.
Carl - I hope your DS enjoys his time at home.
HB - you are a saint.
Zetta - be careful!
Judith - missing you.
Mint - I love just walking outside at sunrise and taking just a moment to breathe in the calm and the beauty.
The oven timer is telling me to get back in the kitchen. Y'all be safe and have a great day. TTYL

Happy Independence Day! Day plans are just mowing the lawn and hanging out. Tonight we'll watch fireworks.
GG, walking tacos are a small bag of Doritos cut open with the taco meat, cheese, salsa - all the taco fixings - in the bag. You use a fork and can walk around eating it. It might be a Midwestern thing, not sure.
Have a good day and stay safe everyone. 🇺🇲

Beth, the first thing I ate with Charles on a date was a Frito Chili Pie, a bag of Fritos with chili and cheese in the bag. That was st Sonic. Do you all have Sonic drive-ins? Just ordered groceries to be delivered today. I needed AA batteries for the tv remote in the bedroom and didn't have new ones, otherwise would not have ordered today.
Enjoy our Independence Day!!!

Happy 249th Birthday USA!
Zetta— It's funny, when mom selected her dentures, the old dentist brought out a tray of midtone teeth he felt appropriate to her age. Mom was unhappy with his offering and brought out whiter ones and a compromise was come to. She felt she was paying good money and wanted pretty ones. She cares not if everyone knows they're fake. She was leaning towards the "Hollywood White" tray of options, but we got her to dial it back to something a bit less blinding.
Gothic G— Train>city driving/parking always. My bestie thinks I'm nuts, but then she is the worst driver I know. Once we were going to a play in which her daughter has a lead. We met at a restaurant, and she drove us to the theater a few blocks away. She was distracted and accidently ended up driving the wrong way up a busy street for 2 blocks. DH was in the front seat and hasn't yet recovered.
Beth— The scouts out here on the east coast often fixed walking tacos on camp outs. They are that perfect intersection of junky yumminess and easy clean up.
Mint— all this talk of berries. My grandparents' drive was lined with raspberries and blackberries; she'd promise us pie if we picked enough. I don't think we ever got to that point given our snacking on the way back to the house. Around here they have something they call wineberries; they look just like raspberries but can be bitter and cause GI issues when eaten. So disappointing.

I have a BBQ at my niece's house. I'll bring mom but I don't intend to stay long. DH has offered to come along. He's been telling me he wasn't for weeks now but I guess he feels badly about that. Either that, of he misses me. I haven't been home much this week. I'm baking brownies and will bring some oddball craft brews that aren't me thing.

Good morning
Blackberry cobbler, goodness oh so good. I love the smell of it cooking. I know what I'm hungry for now.
I'm glad you explained what walking taco's were. I'd never heard of them before. Walking taco's with blackberry cobbler for dessert - I could get into that.
Zetta you need to be careful. Slow down when walking around corners maybe.
HB, what a day you had with your mom. Your a good, no, your a very good daughter. You've got a lot of balls you juggle very well.
I've had a migraine for two days. My med's aren't touching it, which is odd. I'm on a daily med to keep them at bay which has worked wonderfully. An occasional breakthrough migraine, but not many. Until this one, ugh. None of my normal tricks are helping. DH just walked by and said "will this is new" and kept walking. I have my sunglasses on inside - that helps a tiny bit.
Screen time isn't good, hopefully back later. Let's be safe everyone.

Happy Independence Day!
I live just outside the city, so people go to the county park just west of my home to launch fireworks. My son and I plan to sit on my back porch and watch the show. It is illegal to sell or shoot fireworks in the city, since a supermarket burned down in the 1950s and a woman and two of her granddaughters were killed. The supermarket had a whole aisle of fireworks, like Christmas decorations or Easter eggs. When it caught fire, rockets were flying all over the store. The City Council passed the law before the ashes cooled.

Guess I'll watch fireworks on tv tonight. Pretty day here with a good breeze,- sun just came out so it'll begin to warm up. Opened the corral gates for the girls but they're at the MH where there is almost always a little breeze.
I don't think raspberries are very popular here. Don't remember ever seeing them in the store. Daddy did plant a few plants many years ago but we only got a few of them. It's blackberries, dewberries and strawberries around here.
So sorry about your migraine, Eagle. I'm fortunate that I don't remember having one. I do have ocular migraines occasionally but they've visual with hardly any headache. Hope it gets better soon.
Looks like Texas is having a lot of rain today especially around San Antonio. I wouldn't mind a shower. About time for grocery delivery so will stop tor now.

Happy Fourth everyone!
JeriLynn, are you secretly Superwoman?
Beth, thanks for the explanation of walking tacos. They sound just my speed.
HB, I spent a couple of hours driving my friend around for her errands. We chose today because I thought the traffic would be light. No, the traffic was definitely not light. Everyone was out, at the ATM picking up cash and at the supermarket picking up food, drinks and ice. The parking lot was like a speedway, I had to wait so long to back out. I had to come home and decompress from the traffic. It was worse than everyday traffic!
Plus I had to park on a slope near her place. I'm not used to parking struggles any more, I've gotten spoiled.

Iris. I asked the girl who delivered my groceries if they were busy and she groaned and said it was terrible. Said the store wss full of people who seemed like they had never eaten, buying everything.. Both yesterday and today. Bern a.nice, quiet day here and not too hot outside. I don't think the.girls came down to the barn today. I'm trying to not go out the front door too much so as to not disturb the Barn Swallow setting on her nest. Carol called and we talked a long time. She said people have been setting off fireworks all day in her neighborhood. We're the only people around now who remembers the good old days with the exception of Darwin.
Our thread has been quiet today so everyone must be enjoying the holiday.
Judith, how are you today?

Morning,
Iris, I only wish to be Superwoman. I fail often.
We did not leave our place yesterday. First set of grands here around 10am to pick up their boat, of course there was an issue with something but DH to the rescue, lol.
DH's younger brother stopped by for a short visit.
We started early morning, and DH had all the meat done except for the burgers and dogs. My kids got here at 12 (only an hour late) and by the time DH had burgers done, DD and I had all the food out and ready. The whole island and the side counter were full. DD made a berry trifle with a cream cheese and cool whip filling adorned with strawberries and blueberries. Sent everyone home with leftovers and we still have enough that we will not cook before we leave tomorrow and will meet BIL in Scottsboro to take food to him!
We spent the afternoon at the pool until we just got too hot out there. Everybody went home around 6pm full, tired and happy.
If there were fireworks last night (I'm sure there were) I missed them as DH woke me from my couch sleep at 8pm to go to bed. I was whipped.
The sky is just turning pink so I'll get up from here and go feed the chickens. We have identified the egg eater. It's Frick. As soon as she lays an egg, she turns around and devours it. She'll have to have some crate time when I get back from the camping trip.
Have a good day and I'll BBL.

Good morning
Ron hope your night wasn't too traumatic. Thought about you when my neighborhood started shooting off fireworks.
Eagle hope headache is gone today.

Good Morning all.
Eaglemom— I do hope the migraine has subsided. They're such a miserable experience.
Carl— I hope you and your son enjoyed the fireworks. That story about the supermarket is so sad. I'm not a fan of fireworks in the hands of non-professionals especially when there's alcohol or children involved. I did give DS the warning to avoid them at the party he was attending. You know the old mom peptalk— Don't subtract from the population, don't add to the population, don't do anything that lands you in the back of a police car, a hospital or the newspaper. Have fun!His one friend is really into them; said friend was rather subdued this week after a train crash in which he was engineer. There was no fault on his end; a couple of teens who'd been drinking plowed into some tanker cars at a grade crossing and were badly injured.
Lorita— I suspect living in a rural area, stores wouldn't bring in raspberries routinely as they're very expensive and ridiculously fragile. Especially if blackberries are readily available. Speaking of expensive produce, I bought a Pink Moonglow pineapple on the markdown table the other day. These usually sell for $10 but it was only $2.50 so I picked one up. It was sort of disappointing. It's not as intensely flavored and the pink color is kind of dingy.
Iris— Were you and your friend out early in the day? I drove to mom's and then niece's house and had clear sailing both ways starting at around 2:30. I made it home in just under an hour including the drop-off at mom's place.
Jerilynn— That sounds like a nice day. What does one do with an "egg-eater" like Frick? Can she be rehabilitated?
___________________________________________________________________
The party went well. DH bailed as I suspected he might; his BP was running low, so he stayed home. Mom had a blast. She was a little goofy and unfiltered. I suspect this is kind of a generational thing more than anything. Like she marvels at fathers competently engaged with their kids or men preparing food as if it's some miracle. The Millennials and Gen Xers tend to give her the side-eye. I heard all about tattoos on the drive home. She's not a fan and nephew-in-law has a couple of seriously inked sibs and friends. I will say that the one sister kind of looked as if she'd been wallpapered in Schumacher from the 1980s.
Nephew-in-law made as much food as Jerilynn—pulled pork, burgers, a massive salmon filet and something called "smoked fatties" which were a filling wrapped in ham and then bacon in loaf form and cooked in the smoker. I tried the French toast version— best thing to ever hit my lips. Seriously. There was a pepper version as well but those came late in the game and I was out of room. All of the friends brought things; there were 5 fruit salads in rotation. The most interesting contribution was from her friend's husband who hired a water slide-bouncy castle which turned up at 8am just as he texted her to expect it. Aside from dropping the water pressure from the well, it was brilliant. The kids were happily distracted and living their best lives. One of the neighbor's goldens even swam for a bit.
My idiot BIL has Covid and didn't come which suits me fine. He's always trying to ingratiate himself with mom. The niece with whom I don't have a relationship wasn't there, but her daughter was there with the mom who adopted her. It's an open adoption and her mom and I used to interact a lot; I'm the one who supported my niece through that pregnancy and early postpartum. It was pretty clear niece wasn't going to keep custody of the baby because of mental health and substance issues. As a family member I was offered the chance to foster/foster-to-adopt the child and I really was tempted but I DH and I were 58/68 and really it wouldn't be fair to her. Her family is local, and she was lucky to have a doting older sister as well. I haven't seen the daughter since she was about 7 so it was a treat to chat with her. The great irony is that the kid looks like me but more like my mom's frenemy sister. I was able to show her a picture of mom's sister which her mom found hilarious. Auntie looks damned good for 89.
Bestie's daughter is still pregnant. They're speaking again; bestie is holding her tongue for a change which is for the best.
Dinner with friends tonight. I think they picked a fancy place rather than the usual small family joints we typically frequent. I'm looking forward.
Have a nice day.
HB2 -
Jerilynn— That sounds like a nice day. What does one do with an "egg-eater" like Frick? Can she be rehabilitated?HB: we will put her in a cage on the patio and watch for her to lay her egg each morning (usually around 9:30) and immediately take the egg away and put a golf ball under her. The hope is being unable to get the golf ball to crack she will stop. It’s probably not even a 50% chance of success. If she fails then it will be up to DH to deal with.

I wonder if you could blow an egg and fill the shell with Tabasco. I've never tried that, it's just a thought.
1 -
I wonder if a hen would be put off by pepper sauce. The local feed store sells a bird blend that's seasoned with heat that said to deter squirrels and deer raiding feeders. My friend bought it; birds seem to like it as well as other seed blends.
Fingers crossed for you @JeriLynn661 -
Morning, this must be an odd occurrence - we always had chickens when I was growing up and then Charles and I raised chickens and sold rggs, as did my parents. To my knowledge we never had that problem or we had so many hens we didn't notice. Good luck with being there when she lays, JeriLynn.
Everyone's Fourth of July menus sound so good. Really Hungary for a blackberry cobbler but can't have seeds of any kind and deseeding them would be a chore. Guess seedless blackberry jam will have to suffice.
I just heard there have been at least 27 deaths in the flooding in Texas. Just awful.. Didn't hear if they found any of the missing girls.
I opened the barn yesterday for the girls and just went to the mailbox and most of them are under the trees in the shade except a few who are grazing in the lot. It's nice outside right now. Will stop and be back later. Need to scramble eggs for the GPs and me.. I have had them for five weeks but they still test as being good.
