    Good morning.

HB, yesterday I drove around with my friend from 11 am until 1 pm. The streets were packed but the one freeway that I drove over didn't look packed.

My neighborhood looked and sounded like a war zone after the sun went down, from fireworks.

What a tragedy at the supermarket, Carl. Here in SoCal but not near me, a house that was storing fireworks exploded and caught fire other houses on fire, and one person was killed.

Didn't get to cook the eggs. D. Had called earlier for the number for urgent care. His wife had a temp and he was scared. I couldn't get through to UC. He called a !ittle later saying no one was at UG. I called the one who runs it in another town and was to!d it was closed hut there is another one in town. He went there and they told him to bring her in. I hurried and got dressed and went over to take them. He was there and must have flown low to beat me there. She was better. I took her temp and it was 97.3, said she felt better, no.pain.

.She woke him this morning screaming and it scared him when she wasn't well.I called the other UC and they close today st 12:30, not open tomorrow. So, our little town has one urgent care and one doctor who is open 4.5 days. If he retires (he is in his late 70s) we will be.up a creek. Nearest hospital is about 30 miles away and an ambulance takes about 30 minutes to get here. D. Was scared almost to death.

    Afternoon all…..

Finally my migraine has subsided. This one was very different from any other one I've ever had. And it didn't respond to my meds either. Thanks everyone for asking.

Much to my great surprise we didn't have many fireworks. Usually some goober about 4 blocks away shoots fireworks. Lots of great big booming ones. Last night we only heard about three. I was fine with that.

Grey drizzle here today, very odd for July 5th. The terrible flooding here in central TX is just beyond words. We don't watch tv during the day and that's a good thing because its just news coverage about the flooding. 750 girls at a summer camp, I can't imagine what they've gone through. I don't know how many are still missing. There was a camp ground with 24 campers - pull trailers & motor homes - all are gone. The river rose 39 ft in 4 hr in the dark. Such devastation.

On a brighter note, DH ask me if today we could be pajama people. I ask him what he meant. He means after dinner, we get cleaned up for bed immediately & in our jammies. We can watch a Hallmark Christmas movie (or two) & maybe have popcorn. Oh the simplicity of life. Yes, we are going to be pajama people tonight.

Glad your migraine is better, Eagle. Take it easy. The flooding g is terrible. Is it flat land near a river that flooded? Really happened fast and at night. Last I heard the death toll wss 127.

Judith, happy to see your post. Is this the kind of dizziness you had several years ago? I had it once once where I felt like I had to hold onto the bed to keep from falling off. Lasted a few hours.. Also had some dizziness where I needed to keep my hand on the wall as I walked down the hospital halls. Lasted several days or weeks and they never knew what caused it. Are you able to be.up and walking? Be very careful.

Fell asleep watching tv so think I.might take a nap.

Beth - I'd have never guessed that's what a walking taco is. Are the bags reinforced? Or are they double-bagged?

HB and JeriLynn - I'm so impressed by all the different kinds of foods! Even when all of my family gets together, there aren't that many different options. And for the 4th, most of those options are salads of some sort.

eaglemom - I'm glad your migraine has subsided. It sounds just miserable. I don't get them myself, but my bestie does, and when they hit … I love the idea of being pajama people for the day/night.

Judith - I'm glad you're starting to feel better!

Over in our neck of the woods, and on the far end of the porch, we're having a food debauchery weekend! Yesterday we had burgers - beef burger for my s.o. and an Impossible burger for me. Heirloom tomatoes were on sale, so we added those, along with lettuce and pickles. For me, burgers have always been a delivery device for mustard - one of my all time favorite condiments. My s.o. made baked french fries, which were pretty good.

Today we're having "loaded" quesadillas. I guess technically I'm just going to be having a "dilla" since I won't add cheese to mine. Otherwise, they'll have mushrooms and corn inside. I'll make salsa with the rest of the heirloom tomatoes, jalapeno-poblano-fresno-serano peppers, cilantro, and lime juice. And I'll make guacamole. My s.o. is going to make pomegranate margaritas to go with all of that.

Oreo cookies for dessert - because we are just that bad.

Once the weekend food debauchery is over, we're both going on a strict ABC diet for three months. No (a)lcohol, no (b)read, and no processed ( c ) arbs. Essentially you end up shopping the perimeter of the grocery store because that's where all of the fish, fruits and vegetables live.

Hope you all have a great rest of the day.

    Hello Front Porchers.

Judith. It's nice hearing from you, and nice to hear your feeling better. Stay warm and get lots of rest.

GG. Yes the Bart was what I was on. The scariest part for me was being underground, with the train tracks and all the people. I was only on the Bart, once, that was enough for me.

JeriLynn. Your always so busy, and your easy menu would have taken me all day. Your house sounds like a fun place to be, with all your family being together. In my younger years my grandma, was the one who had all the family over. It's sad when some of the family has pass and rest of us have gone different directions 😪

Have fun on your camping trip, and be safe.

Lorita. Yes we do have a Sonic, here in Maricopa. My DD keeps saying we need to eat there. I tell her as soon as I get used to my new teeth, we will do that. I'm sorry that poor Darwin was so scared. That would scare me, especially being so far from a care facility. Your a good neighbor being there to help him.

HB. That was funny that your mom wanted the whitest teeth. My dentist did help me pick out the best match for me. I'm not sure if it's just all the teeth or the whiteness of all the teeth. I just need to leave them in long enough to get used to them.

We had a quiet day yesterday, we had hot dogs, potato salad and my DD, made a Hawaiian guava cake. It was a strawberry cake with a cream cheese layer and a guava gel topping, it was so good we have some for today and tomorrow. It was the best cake I have ever had. I even had a piece for breakfast and lunch. Were having left over hotdogs 🌭 for dinner.

The fireworks we had in our neighborhood last night was right across the street. My DD, gave her big dog tranquilizers to get her through the night and my Molly slept through the whole thing. I'm surprised the ones they set off were legal. In Oregon, they would not be.

We have been getting some rain lately, which I love and also some wind. I guess in Arizona, that's called a Monsoon. DD, said we will get those mid june through late September.

I hope your all having a good weekend. Hugs Zetta

Zetta, I lunched Thursday with a woman who moved from a desert area of New Mexico to Missouri as a child and crossed a river on the train. She thought a pump had been left on, because she had never seen running ground water before. This was during WW II and most of the men on the train were soldiers.

In eating lunch at the Senior Center, I am finding that the line between the people I met at my wife's memory care and some of the older seniors is pretty narrow. I am hearing interesting stories about things that happened in 1940 from people who re-ask questions I answered ten minutes ago, came to the center on the OATS bus, and aren't entirely sure what day it is. But, I enjoy it. We eat our lunch, play Bingo some days, talk, cuss the government, all that senior citizen stuff.

Sounds like everyone is having a nice weekend with plrnty.of good food. I love ha,donut spread and I think I ate a little too much this afternoon. Normally eat it on chocolate rice cakes but just ate it with a spoon today..

I called D. a while ago see.how things are and he said his wife is feeling pretty well and was having a hard time keeping her in bed. Said he had run out 'of propane but his range and AC are electric. He had been out cutting on a big tree that had fallen in his meadow. I told him to.let it alone and let them cut around it. They already had but he wants to get it out of the meadow.

Just let the GPs in and it is hot and still out there. We're all in the bedroom now where it is nice and cool.

Death toll so far in Texas is 32 with 14 kids still missing. The nees said they had 12 inches of rain in a few.hours

Zetta, there is no way I would go underground to ride a subway. No way. Glad you're getting some rain to cool you off some.

Carl, nice that you're getting out and around with.peop!e. Maybe that will make it easier for you. Right now it's good to.not be alone so much. After over ten years I'm used to it but never really alone with two Pyrenees and three cats. I know they know everything I say to them since I have talked to them since they were little.

The weather just said the entire State of Oklahoma is drought free, first time in ten years. Goo news after our awful drought last year.

Lorita, I’ve been trying to figure this out for awhile now but finally decided to just show my ignorance and ask. Who are the GP’s? When I first saw you mention them I thought “grandparents “. But mention of letting them in and out, and them standing in the shade tells me that’s not quite right. :)

Also, please tell me more about this donut spread. Sounds like something I would like.

Jehjeh, my.tablet has a mind of it's own and changes what I type. The donut spread it typed was supposed to.be hazelnut spread. I try to proofread but sometimes it changes words after I do.

Sorry.but the GPs question and grandparents being let in and out really made me laugh. I have two Great Pyrenees, Sheena and Stormy so I type GPs to make it shorter. You'll also see me writing about "the girls". Those are my cows. Charles started calling them that and it has stuck. Thanks for giving me my.laugh for the day.

I just saw my first snake of the year. I went out to check the barn and decided I would dump the little.bit of water out of the tank and give the girls fresh, clean water. I turned over the water tank, a.big, rubber tank that.holds maybe 50 gal!ons, not sure, and there was a snake under it. I didn't scream, why I don't know, just looked st it and turned the tank back.upright. It was dark with a yellow stripe down its.body. I knew it wasn't a water.moccasin- they are all dark. Looked it up and looks like it was was some kind of garter snake. Had never seen one before. Funny thing is that I have a long rubber hose with a float valve on it I can't get off and it's laying just outside the yard and the hose is dark with a yellow stripe. Always thought it looked snaky so guess it really does. That would be a.big snake, wouldn't it?

Time to go turn off the water.

Correction: the fireworks explosion that burned four houses was in a warehouse that stored fireworks. They don't know what set off the explosion, and it was in northern CA, not SoCal.

    Good morning, busy day here

Judith glad you were able to get back out on the porch for a little bit. Nice to see you.

enjoy being around the ones you . I even enjoy being around my mom now which is such a blessing. She still does crazy things this week. We realized why all of a sudden the disposable underwear was . My sister found what appeared to be clean ones very neatly stacked in the garbage can. So we had to get creative and come up with the system to stop that for sure. Seems to be working so far.

Good morning on the porch. Bright and sunny here today.

Eagle— I'm glad you're recovering but I hope this doesn't become a new normal. I had to laugh at your DH's pajama people. I'm afraid we probably qualify. I tend to do chores around the house in my bathrobe (I have at least 5 different ones) before getting cleaned up and DH puts his jammies on right after dinner.

Gothic— The bags in which things like Doritos are packaged are quite robust and easily contain the mess that is a walking taco.

I have a semi-vegetarian bestie who loves Impossible Burgers and treats herself to one weekly. Her church sponsored a refugee family from Afghanistan and bestie is quite fond of them. She drives the teenaged daughter to her clarinet lesson each week (which she also funds) and after they go to BK for an Impossible Whopper which is also Halal.

Good luck with the A-B-C diet. I don't eat much in the way of ultra processed foods, but wine/craft beers, cheese and good bread sustain me emotionally. Good luck with this; I hope it's not a long 3 months.

Speaking of sarcophagi, I had dinner with a friend who interred his mom with family last week. The siblings were shopping for a suitable urn for their beloved mom and decided instead on pouring into the cookie jar she kept filled for them growing up.

Zetta— That's funny that you're still breaking in the new teeth. While my mom treats her hearing aids as an optional accessory reserved for people who matter more than me, the teeth are always in place. So important are they, that I am charged with popping them back in when she's in recovery after surgery.

Carl— The likelihood of memory issues increases rather dramatically with the super-elderly. While the rate of dementia for 65+ is about 10% (21% MCI), for people in their 90's it's about 35%. Sobering.

One in 10 Older Americans Has Dementia | Columbia University Irving Medical Center

The friend I had dinner with last night noted that his favorite BIL, who is 80-something, is showing worsening memory issues but still pleasant. This is the husband of the family's designated caregiver. This sister is a retired RN who oversaw the care of their mom with dementia until she died over the winter and the dad with CHF. (Friend used to visit 3-4 times a year so sis could get a break) It is so unfair that her stage will be more caregiving and the loss of her life partner.

Lorita— I'm glad the drought is over. That is not a comfortable way to live when worried about wells holding out.

Your snake story reminds me of the snake my parents had in MD. They had black rat snakes which are valued for keeping the vermin population down; some folks even feed them over the winter to hold onto them. Mom had a 5-footer who took a shine to her black garden hose and would entangle himself with it. She thinks he thought it was his mate, so she left him to it, and bought a bright yellow one for herself.

Mint— I am so glad you are able to have a nice visit with your mom these days. You, and your sister, worked hard for that outcome. Bummer about the disposables. Yikes.

Jehjeh— Back when I was a lurker, Lorita's GPs confused me as well. I assumed the same as you which made for ridiculous mental images especially regarding things like nail trims and wanting to be out all night. The MH stymied me for a longer time— manor house, mobile home, main house, mental hospital, mom's house, motor home. Color me confused.
    _______________________________________________________________________

DS wanted to go to Lancaster but DH is loath to make the drive with weekend traffic, so we'll do it tomorrow. DS is annoyed because there was a specific engine he wanted to see under steam and DH isn't budging. I'd be inclined to advocate for today and get it over with. The weather will be better today and I don't fancy rainy weather with my bad knee. We usually drop DS off and then go antiquing or to the outlets and meet up for dinner. Maybe they'll go see the F-1 movie instead. I'll need to swap cars and take the Miata to the grocery store which means I can't buy much aside from tonight's dinner.

No changes on the baby-front. The mom-to-be's BP is still elevated but no longer rising. She has appointments with at least one doctor tomorrow. Bestie is holding her tongue for a change, so things are quiet on that front.

    HB

Thank you for the mornings laughs.

Lorita. I'm glad your letting your grandparents, in and out daily, especially when it's hot. 😅😅😅

Be careful of those snakes. Do you get mean ones? You Bet, your fur babies understand what your saying. When I talk about going someplace Molly, picks on a word I said and she goes right to the front door.

I was surprised 😮 when I found out I was going on the Bart, to leave San Francisco. That was 30 years ago. I was a auditor for, Destination Resorts. The Argent, hotel in San Francisco, was on strike. I was flowen in from Oregon, to do auditing during the strike. A taxi pickup me up from the Airport and I was escorted into the Argent, threw the picket line. No one had any idea who I was. Two weeks later, leaving was not as protective, so management sent me to the airport on the Bart.

Does Darwin understand he needs to stay safe for his wife. Would his wife know how to call you? Checking in on each other as you guys do is good.

Carl. That was funny when the lady thought a pump broke, when she went over The river, I was in Poland, few years ago and I was surprised and a bit nervous, how people took boats right up to the front of businesses.

Ron. Have a safe trip and stop as many times as needed. Rest areas are a good place, some even have places to get coffee, and get out to streach your legs.

HB. Your mom is so lucky to have you as her daughter. And that your willing to pop her teeth 😬 in. I would never ask anyone to do that for me. I'm still trying to get used to them. I might put them in later today.

Mint. I'm glad your enjoying your visits with your mom, I remember some of the trying times you had, when she lived alone. Sounds like she is enjoying her living place.

Beth. How long was the underwater tunnel? I was in one years ago, I don't think it was long, I think it was between New York and Canada. That was about 40 years ago.

Have a good day, and thanks for the laughs. Lorita, don't forget your grandparents. Hugs Zetta

Those snake/hose stories remind me of the guy who saw a stick and thought it was a snake. He picked up a "stick" to hit it with, and the "stick" turned out to be a snake.

Some of my neighbors have installed strobe lights to keep deer out of their flowerbeds. It isn't working. Deer aren't afraid of light. I have a doe in my back yard right now, at high noon.

I'm out of dental floss, so I'm going shopping. That's about the right sized load for a Miata, but I don't have one.

Carl, you. crack me up! There are a couple of sticks around here that remind me of snakes and tree roots on top of the ground that I have to think about. I wss out back earlier and saw a spider making off with a wasp in its mouth..When I was baptized in our.pond there was a snake swallowing a frog. You never know what you'll see in the country.

.Zetta, most of the snakes around here are water moccasins and they are venemous. Many years ago Charles saw one going down in a low place by a water hydranand grabbed it by the tail. It whipped around and bit him. We literally flew low to the doctor. They put his hand in ice water for a.long time.. Evidently it was not a moccasin, thank goodness so he was okay. Never did that again.

You all remember two or three years ago when I got two big moccasins and two or three babies out of the house.Broke my grabber because one was so heavy. To this day when the cats go into the bathroom where they were the cats look under the chair and dresser, snakehunting.

I'm watching out for the GPs, Zetta. Jehjeh, we're not laughing at with you, but with you. No way would someone not familiar with us know what GP stood for. Years ago we had a Chuck Wagon, !ike a Gator, and I abbreviated that CW. Took a while for us to get used to that, too.

Mint, glad.your mother is doing okay.. I know you're much happier now knowing she is cared for and without all you went through dealing with her. How are the tomatoes doing?

I think I just heard that the death poll from the flash flood in Texas is up to 70 with many more, mostly children, still missing. Just can't imagine what those poor people are going through.

Getting pretty warm here this afternoon. Only three months until we cool off. Back later.

Zetta, forgot to answer your question. Donna used to have a cell phone but wouldn't know how to use one now and they don't have a landline. She is content to stay in the house when he's outside, I.hope. He went out yesterday in the heat to cut on a downed tree - just isn't content to stay inside. He works a while, then lays down to rest and so on. He is 86 so shouldn't be doing that. He does keep his phone with him.but if a limb fell.on him he might not be able to use it. Remember Sandy used to tell me if something happened to me out in the pasture one of the girls wouldn't come over and dial the phone for me. That was when you all were trying to get me to wear the medical guardian. He needs one, too..He's just used to working and can't give it up.

I was watching "Golden Girls" reruns a while ago. That is the funniest show there ever was. Betty White had me laughing out loud with her story about the herring circus in St. Olaf. It's like Sea World, but smaller. Much smaller. But bigger than a flea circus. Then Dorothy asked if they ever shot a herring out of a cannon. Long pause. Then "Only once." 😆

Years ago I read a magazine article about how there are more old women than old men, and the author suggested a single old man should live with three or four old single women. Every time I think that sounds like a good idea I watch Golden Girls and the feeling passes.

Well our camping trip was canceled. SIL said she was weed eating Thursday, tripped and fell. Back out on Friday for more weeding, got hot and dizzy. Didn’t feel good Saturday when we talked. Went to the ER late afternoon. She’s got Covid AGAIN! I think she’s picking it up at her church. I think she has had Covid at least 4 times.
So today I’ve been unloading everything I just finished putting in the RV. Oh well, another time.

    Safe travels today Ron.

I need to get leftovers from the fridge.

Carl, how far from you will Ron be? Maybe close enough to get together? Just checked the radar and it looks like a lot of rain east of Springfield. I took down the trash and it was hot, only 88 but heat index is 95.

I think I asked once if you were near Lake Taneycomo, just wondering if It's as full as all of our lakes.
