Ron and I will be within 35 miles of each other, and we do plan to get together. I am about an hour north of Taneycomo, but I'm not sure how full it is. It is downstream from Table Rock Dam, so the Corps of Engineers can keep it pretty consistent except during major flooding.

The weekend has generally been good to us. Sunny, great food, board games, music and — aurora possibilities. I think they were visible in places like Michigan, and should have been visible for us, but as usual — clouds, so no auroras for us. I think I may have mentioned that my s.o. has this app on his phone, the "Glendale" app. It's run by this one guy who lives somewhere on the Isle of Skye, and it's quite accurate. We monitored for a few hours last night and then bagged it when we realized it wasn't going to happen. Of course by then it was 3am. 😄
I'm not a big Black Sabbath fan (although I do like the song, Paranoid), but we kind of tracked their farewell show yesterday. So many metal bands! I think the live stream had a peak of 5 million people, and there were 40,000 people in the stadium. Wow. I had no idea. I thought it was cool that the proceeds all went to charity. Ozzy Osborne has Parkinson's so some of the money went to a Parkinson's charity, and the rest went to a couple of children's hospitals. Good for Black Sabbath for doing that.
Zetta - I can see how BART can be somewhat intimidating. I always just took it for granted since that's how I got around SF (MUNI or BART). What was intimidating to me was taking BART from SF to Oakland. BART takes you under the Bay for that. So not only are you underground, but you're under water! Every time I'd go to Oakland, I worried about earthquakes.
I remember the Argent hotel - although I think it's a Westin now.
I'd heard about monsoons in Arizona, but I didn't really know what they were.
Lorita - I'm glad you guys are drought-free. Droughts are a big deal in California. Living in an almost perpetual drought is the one thing I don't miss about CA. I guess droughts have given me good water habits though. I take very quick showers (even now), don't leave water running, etc. I still keep the reservoir monitoring website up in a separate window and I check it periodically (old habits and all). Things are looking good in CA right now.
Like jehjeh, I was really interested to find out what the donut spread was all about. Now I'm all disappointed. 🙂
Ron - I hope your trip from Louisiana to Missouri is hassle-free.
HB - we don't eat much processed food here either. I have an Impossible burger once or twice a year. To be honest, we're close to being on the ABCs almost all year long - it's not that hard to do once you get used to it. But every once in awhile I want a burrito or a sandwich, or an oreo, and nothing else will do. And sometimes a cold margarita or a chilled rosé can be very nice.
I LOVE the cookie jar idea!
JeriLynn - I'm sorry about your camping trip getting canceled. And I'm sorry your SIL has covid! Ugh. Every time I think it might be safe to get back in the water and not wear a mask, I hear about something like this. I'll continue to mask when I'm in a public place.
Carl - that's so cool that you and Ron will be within driving distance.
0 -
GG, I'm still wearing my mask when I go to town on am around someone. It also helps with allergens. Another positive about wearing a mask II s you don't need to put on makeup. I did that everyday for over 33 years so it's nice.
How nice, Carl, that you and Ron will be do close together so you can visit if you wish.
Been a quiet day here, as usual. About the only noises I hear are cows calling their babies, birds chirping and wolves and coyotes at night. I sometimes hear a truck on the road but not often.
The guy who leased Darwin's land is baling hay. He has a mower that cuts about 20 ft. in one swat so when he starts cutting again I want to go see it. Darwin was a big farmer and rancher and he said he has ever seen one like it. I like to see them roll up the grass, stop and open the door and see the huge bale roll out. Not much of anything is prettier than a meadow with all those huge bales of fresh hay. Charles and I always went down after they finished baling to look at it and smell the fresh hay - smells so good. Do I sound like I like living in the country?
GG, years ago we were able to see the northern IIghts. They were green. A man who did some work for us lived in Alaska for years and he said they were different colors. It's a shame it was cloudy and you weren't able to see them.
About time for bed so I will say good night and sleep tight
0 -
I'm wrapping up and getting ready to go to bed - early, for a change!
Lorita - apparently (from what I've read) we're now on the downward side of aurora viewing, but we should still have some good opportunities for awhile yet. It's an 11 year cycle, I think. I'm going to be optimistic.
A year ago May, I saw auroras for the first time - very exciting! Here's a photo I took. I was looking straight up above me.

Good morning. We are expecting storms this afternoon, and I just saw some lightning to the south. Another wet day.

I'm glad that I took the wheel back over from my grandson. Yes Carl, I was welcomed big time around Springfield. Rain so hard, i turned on emergency blinkers and slowed down to a crawl. This lasted a good 30 minutes. Of course when we arrived, my fur baby grandson had to greet me.
Ron

Glad you made it safe, Ron. Nothing like a wet dog to make you feel really welcome.

Good morning
Ron hope you had a nice trip.
Lorita hope you asked about tomatoes. They are doing good. Hope you are too this morning
Hawaiian Guava cake sounds like something I would like to try.
Take care everyone

Beth— I've not done that tunnel. There'd have to be something amazing on the other side to do a tunnel unless there was no other option. I'm a tad claustrophobic. Train tunnels are less of a problem for me generally.
Lorita— I hope Darwin has a robust Plan B for Donna given his behavior. It seems like Donna spends a lot of time alone in the house.
Jerilynn— Covid again? Yikes! It does seem like there are those prone to be repeat customers. My niece has had it at least that many times— in her case it's probably a matter of mediocre compliance around vaccines, a less-then-robust immune system and a lifestyle that includes lots of socializing and air travel. My friend of mom-in-the-cookie-jar fame has never contracted Covid, and he travels at least as often as niece does— when travel reopened early in the pandemic, he toured Italy and biked across China.
Ron— I am glad you made it safely and into the paws of the welcome committee. Football season will be here before you know it.
Gothic G— It's funny, I have no qualms navigating underground subways in Philadelphia, Boston, DC or even London and Paris, by NYC is just beyond me. It feels almost like it was designed to confuse non-natives.
The aurorae pictures are stunning. I've never seen them even in Maine. It's funny, old habits die hard. I still have the NOAA flood gauge from my old street bookmarked some 5 computers later. In my defense, the main route to mom's is on the same creek and will close for floods at about 10' meaning I have to go an entirely different way.
We're headed to Lancaster today. DS will do some train tourism while DH and I will check out our favorite cookware outlet and maybe the Pottery Barn's as well. There's a QVC outlet, but it's a weird hot mess of a place so I avoid it. We'll have showers in the afternoon which is a shame.
I hope you all have a pleasant day.

What is the ABC diet?
Lorita and Zetta, I'm from New York and riding on the subway and through the tunnels is nothing for me. Bridges never bothered me until I began to drive. If you are stuck on a bridge, it shakes and vibrates from all the traffic. I got stuck on a bridge for about 45 minutes once. It was harrowing!
The flooding in Texas is devastating!
Ron it will be nice for you and Carl to be able to get together once in a while.

Morning, sort of cloudy but supposed to be hot and humid. Been watching tv about the terrible crisis around Kerrville.. So hard to imagine or even watch.
0 -
Lorita. Yes I remember when you found those snakes and that your kitties still remember. Darwin, does need a medical guard, hopefully he will consider getting one. I agree with HB, he really needs a plan B for Donna.
Jehjeh. Please don't think I was laughing at you for what you said, i was laughing with you. I enjoy getting a good laugh once in awhile, we all need that. And we do at times get good laughs here.
Ron. I'm so glad you safely made your trip. And was greeted by a fur baby, that fur baby loves you. I'm sure you and Carl, being so close to each other, you will have a lot to talk about and have some fun times visiting.
Carl. I also saw the Golden Girls, talking about the herring circus. I miss all those old shows. I think with TV the way it is now, you can pretty much, watch anything, if you knew how to find it. At least i know how to find my westerns. 🤠
JeriLynn. Sorry your camping trip had to be canceled, and sorry your SIL, has come down with covid, again. Once she recovers, maybe the trip can be planned again.
GG. Earthquakes was exactly what I was thinking about when I was on the Bart. As you know S.F. is known for Earthquakes. How far is the underwater ride, to Oakland? I also had no idea what a monsoon was till I got to Arizona, and experienced my first one last week.
Mint. I loved that Hawaiian Guava Cake, my daughter made. We finished it last night. So many different kinds you could make. We had strawberry next might be lemon 🍋
Iris. It sure would be scary being stuck on a bridge, that was shaking. Did you get stuck due to accident ahead, or was it a toll bridge? I don't like the bridges that are 2 and 3 levels, there is one i would have to go over leaving Oregon going into Washington.
Good day to all, Hugs Zetta

I check the front porch as I wander through the Alzconnected neighborhood but dont usually post (just a nosy neighbor 😁) . Does anyone keep in touch w Lady Texan from this group? I know she was living in the Kerrville area when her DH passed away and has since had her parents move in w her. I was wondering if anyone has heard from her that all is ok at her home there w the devastation that swept through there. She last posted on the parents board in March.

Bumped into a friend at the diner and ate supper with him. He is 100 years old, fought in the South Pacific in WW II and told stories about lugging 6-packs of 18-pound mortar cartridges up and down hill under fire. He was in the auto repair business after the war, knew all of the policemen, and was a big fan of my uncle who was a police officer. He remembered my uncle as "a big redhead who didn't back down from anybody." That's how I remember Uncle CJ too.
2 -
Ron - I'm glad you made it safely. I hate driving in rain when it's that bad.
HB - I've only been to NYC maybe three times. My s.o. is from New Jersey so he's very familiar with the subway system there, so I just follow him, otherwise, I'd have no idea how to get from Point A to Point B. I've navigated SF, DC, London, and Paris, and felt fairly comfortable being on the trains. But NYC? Nope.
I hope you guys had a fun trip to Lancaster.
Iris - I just call it the ABC diet because you don't have (A) alcohol, (B) bread, or ( C ) processed carbs. I tend to do it for three months at a time (rather than all the time), mostly because I like chocolate, and the world is a sad place without it. When I did the diet the first time I was amazed that added sugar is in just about everything that's in a can or a jar. That was really an eye-opener for me.
Lorita - I haven't watched anything about the flooding, but I see the headlines. It seems like every time I see a headline, it gets worse.
Zetta - California and earthquakes - a fact of life if you live in CA. BART from SF to Oakland — I think you're underwater for less than 10 minutes, but earthquakes happen in a blink of an eye, so it was always on my mind. I think they did a major retrofit of the transbay tube some number of years ago, so I'm sure it's safer, but will it survive "the big one"? I don't know.
Bridges don't affect me the same way. I know that bridge between Oregon and Washington very well, and I never blink an eye at it. Part of the Bay Bridge in SF is a double level, and that one never bothered me either (and it bounces around).
Nothing much to note here - I'm still loving the weather. My work out this morning was tough - all strength training, including four sets of dead lifts. At the very end of the hour he says to me, "okay, 50 sit-ups and you're out outta here." All I could do was laugh. And then I did the 50 sit-ups. 😄 Tomorrow is "Combat Tuesday". That which does not kill us …..

We had a cobra scare in Springfield about 1954 when some idiot released a bunch of cobras from a pet store to get even with the store owner. About every ten years, when news is slow, the newspaper runs another story about it complete with old B&W photos of police hunting snakes. One of the pictures is of Uncle CJ in civilian clothes, hunting snakes with a shotgun.

Hi Chammer, glad you posted. I haven't seen a post or heard anything about Lady Texan in a long, long time. I hope she is okay Maybe so man done else will know something.
As for me, I don't want anything to do with tunnels especially underground or under water, big bridges or subways. Give me muddy or gravel roads anytime.
Ron, glad you are safely in Missouri. I thought you were driving alone -glad your grandson was with you.
It's thundering a little here. Thunderstorm is West of here but not sure it will get to us. I.hope it does but ranchers are baling hay and rain is the last thing they need.
Good night, sleep tight.

I’m laughing right along with the comments about the GP’s. It is very funny when I think about some of the things they have been up to :)
I still love the Golden Girls, especially those stories from St. Olaf. It always amazed me to see how Betty White could keep a straight face as she told these tales.Sleep well everyone

I just came in from putting up the. car windows. Jehjeh,. Stormy waited at the gate for me. He thinks if the.car moves he should be inside.
When I came back up on the porch I found half of a tiny white eggshell. So, guess one, at least, of the baby barn swallows have hatched. The nest is on one of the porch lights so can't them on. Tomorrow I will fold that quilted furniture cover I use in the car for Sheena, put it inside a trash bag and lay it on the porch underneath the nest. Two or maybe all three of the other brood fell out so this might help if these fall out.
It is beginning to sprinkle. The town about 25 miles west.of us has had 3" of rain but I think most of this will be souh.of us.
Good night, again.

Good morning,
Another bird story. Yesterday I watered the garden and then took down all the flowers and ferns from the Sheppard's hooks to sit under the sprinkler. When I went to hang a geranium pot back, I saw a nest with 2 tiny birds and an unhatched egg. I was so upset that I didn't see it before. So, I sat on the patio playing
"Recordings of distressed baby birds calling their Mother" on my phone for 10 minutes. Lots of little brown birds showed up. I guess they are starlings? Anyway, last night when I went to put the chickens up, I came eye to eye with Mama Bird sitting back on her nest. I was so relieved! We have an underground tunnel that goes from Mobile under the Bay to the beaches. My kids always knew we were getting close to our vacation destination when we went thru the tunnel, lol.
Hot here today with scattered thunderstorms. We need rain again even after all the rain in May and June.
Not sure what's up today except picking the garden. I'll TTYL. Edited to add: I posted for @LadyTexan to let her know we are thinking of her.

Good morning,
Found a nice camper in Buffalo yesterday to put on the property while I deside on my final home. Son has been wanting a camper trailer, so this decision will benefit us both. It is so nice, I might just save my money on the cabin and make him wait until im gone to turn it over to him. I did get to hot walking around looking at all the campers and had to rest inside the office fir awhile. After making it back home my blood pressure was 160/110 and heart rate 142. I'm fine this morning, just need to remember I've more health issues than I had in the 60s. My granddaughter works at some movie theater that serves meals, never heard of that in louisiana.

Good morning
Chammer I wonder about Texan Lady once in a while too. I did not realize, though that she lived in that area. I don’t know if she still lurks here or not. Maybe if she does and she’s OK she’ll let us know.

Ron, glad you found a place to live, whether it be permanent or temporary. I think you've made a good decision and I'm happy for you. To be near family is a blessing.
The garden stands are set up across town now…Iowa sweet corn, tomatoes ("from the Amish"), Missouri peaches, cucumbers etc. I bought a big tomato and some corn and enjoyed it so much. I also bought a couple cucumbers. I am growing cucumbers, rather trying to, without much luck. The soil in my veg. garden area isn't the best. It'll be getting a bunch of compost this fall so it'll be better next year, hopefully. I applied 20 bags of compost plus some of my home made compost to the flower garden and it's doing great! I also moved 3 tomato plants there due to issues with the soil quality in the veg. garden. In bloom in my garden now: Stargazer lilies, 4 daylilies, coreopsis, daisies, black-eyed Susans, vinca, zinnias, four o'clocks, purple coneflowers, pale purple coneflowers, white coneflowers, foxglove, balsam, phlox. I'm evaluating how I like everything. The garden is small, 12 x 18, so everything that goes in there needs to be something I really like. I think I will not plant four o'clocks next year; they take up quite a bit of room. I want to add some poppies and larkspur and butterfly weed. Also want to add some elephant ears.
Have a good day!
1 -
Good morning.
Ron that sounds like a perfect plan for both you and your son. You can rest up a bit from all of this hustle and bustle in style. Then you can decide on your cabin. Remember to keep hydrated.
The news is so awful about the floods. I'm keeping DH away from the news (we don't have the TV on during the day). I can't imagine what those people and girls lived through. Heartbreaking.
We have to miss Zoom today for a pulmonologist for DH. Cough, cough, wheeze, cough and it's time for it to stop!!!
Let's be safe everyone.
1 -
Good morning. We're under both a heat advisory and flood watch. The latter is odd given that there's only a 30% chance of a t'storm around 7pm here. Perhaps it'll change as the day progresses but it really sunny at the moment.
Chammer— I didn't realize Lady Texan was in that part of Texas. I do hope she's OK.
Gothic G— Enjoy your Combat Day. Does your trainer give rest days as well?
Carl— Yikes on the snake release. The woman who adopted my niece's oldest has a daughter 10 years older. She went through a troubled phase as a teen continuing into adulthood. At one point, the girl had snuck over 30 snakes into her room. Mom thought she had 3. That would be a deal-breaker for me.
Lorita— How kind-hearted you are to think of providing a crash pad for your little fledlings.
Beth— I do envy your blooms. The deer have decimated my front beds. I have a couple of coneflowers next to the garage, but they've nipped the buds off the front bed planting including the black-eyed-Susans. I expect them to get the daylilies, but this is new to their diet. Were my wrist 100%, I would tear it all out. I was happy, however to note that the Itoh peony is still there. The landscapers only pulled the foliage. Grrr. I probably won't get any flowers next year, but maybe 2027 will be my year.
Ron— That's a win-win on the trailer. I wonder if all the off-gassing the finished in new campers do contributed to your issues. I can't last 5 minutes in them for that reason.
Eagle— I hope the pulmo can get your husband breathing better. My mom has a chronic cough and it's exhausting for her at times.
________________________________________________________________________________
My bestie's grandbabies arrived last night. I was correct about the genders based on her slipping a couple months back and I also correctly guessed the girl's first name (Carolina for the grandmother) and the boy's middle (Nicholas for the mom's dad). Bestie, who was not excited about the impending grands is besotted which is how it should be. I do worry that her daughter and she have not hammered out their expectations vis a vis bestie helping with childcare. I fully expect this to be the next drama.
Our trip to Lancaster County was mostly successful. DS got to see all the trains at the railroad in which he was interested and road a couple of times. But the museum was closed; DH asked him to double check and evidently, he did not. He went to see the classic layout at Choo Choo Barn which is under new ownership and was delighted at improvements that have been made. DH and I went to the kitchen supply outlet and picked up some random items— some pan scrapers, some new turners to replace my (supposedly dangerous) black ones and a new corkscrew.
After that, we hit Pottery Barn and West Elm. I need to replace DH's arm chair as it's just worn out. He spends nearly all day and evening in his chair reading and even a good piece of furniture wears out on him. FTR, he's not heavy or anything. I've had the same sofa and chair/ottoman (I did get slipcovers for it) combo since 2000 and he's on #3. They didn't have much and what they did have was $$$ and in bad shape or had weird fabric. I did manage to pick up a couple tees at Ann Taylor and Chicos.
The diner DH and DS like closed. They opened a brew pub in that location that had decent beer and really good food so I was happy. DS got a burger and Amish ice cream while DH and I split a lovely Old Bay crab dip. DS found a vintage train engine he liked, so we got it and called it his birthday present. Yay for that. Last year I got him a top for the Miata and it set me back about $1300 after I paid to have it installed professionally. This was much more reasonable.
Hope all have a nice day.

Good morning.
Ron, I'm glad you found the camper that you like. Does it come furnished?
JeriLynn, you are so thoughtful to think of sending out a distress call for the bird moms! I'm glad you were successful.
Beth, how fortunate you are to have fresh organic produce at the garden stands.
HB, I read that chewing gum is useful for helping chronic coughs. I have not tried this yet, but I will because I have a chronic cough.
I will be traveling beginning tomorrow (Wednesday) for about 10 days. I'll try to post if I can.
Iris

What busy days you are all having…
Ron….Bravo
I am downstairs for the first time and feeling better for the first time. Amazing how something not serious can bring you down!

GG, you have the right idea. That which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error!

Good morning Front Porch Rockers.
Lorita. I used to take Molly, with me every place I went when I lived in Oregon. I can't do that here in Arizona, even in the mornings, at times it's 80° at 7. I can only take her if I'm not getting out of the car. 😕 that's a sweet thing your doing for the baby birds.
GG. That really sounds like a work out. It's really nice you can do that. And 50 sit upstairs, i can't even do 1. Tonight is the night my DD and I go to yoga. It's also basic yoga, for beginners and it's a work out. I'm trying to figure a way out, but she already signed us up.
JeriLynn. That was so sweet of you to play bird calls to get the mama back, and it worked. I remember when I was little, we always knew when we were getting close to grandparents house, because we would go over the tickle bridge. It was a 3 hour drive, if we were sleeping my mom would say the tickle bridge, that way we were awake when we got there. The tickle bridge was real bumpy.
Ron. I'm glad you found that camper. And some of them are big enough to live in. I have seen ones I easily could live in. We have theaters in Bend Oregon, that serve meals with the movies. They don't bring them to you, you just picked it up when you come in. I've never been to one. My DD says there are some here in Arizona, we will go to.
Judith, its nice hearing from you, just take things slow until your strength comes back.
Iris. Have safe travels on your 10 day trip.
HB. Stay safe during the flood and heat warnings. We get the heat warnings pretty much every day. That would be scary for someone to have 30 snakes in their bedroom. Hopefully they wornt poisonous. It's good you had fun on your trip to Lancaster Co. And your DS also saw the trains. In Bend Oregon, they have some old boxcars at the train station, that have been turned into restaurants. They were fun to go into.
Good day to all, Hugs Zetta
