Judith—
Fascinating read. Thanks for sharing. It's a beautiful area.
We were only about 6 miles away from The Ark. I've seen other homes in the area built in a that style (we pass one along the turnpike), but perhaps not as grand a scale.
This is another piece on the area.4 notable moments in Quarryville's history | Local News | lancasteronline.com

Forgot to.post, sorry. Judith, take it easy. When we begin to feel better we sometimes do too much.
We had half an inch of rain last night and showers around today but not here. I checked the temp about 3 and it was 83 with heat index of 102.
Had a hard time finding you all. What does 301 moved permanently mean?
Ron, Charles and I lived in town five months after we got married, then bought an 8x30 travel trailer and moved to the farm. We lived in it two years before buying the 14x70 MH.We had all we needed for a while and cleaning house was a snap! How big is your camper?
Took a two hour nap this afternoon. Nice but can't get going now. Was going to fix the pad for the babies but the quilt had been in the porch swing and got wet last night. Just now got it dried. I have no idea how many there are or if all have hatched.
.Will be back.later.

Got the pad fixed - four layers of the quilt. Two layers of a heavy throw rug and four layers of an afghan. It feels soft, if they don't miss it if they fall out. Hope the black thing under the nest doesn't scare mom. Can't think of something to put over the trash bag that isn't black.

What does 301 moved permanently mean? Does that statement show up on your devices?
Just cleaned out all the things in the refrigerator door getting ready for the visit Thursday. You would not believe what all I found. I bet there were twenty Ramen soup seasoning packets among other things I had no idea were there. Tomorrow, the rest gets done.
Good night, sleep tight

Zetta you're wise to avoid taking your little fellow out in the heat, since dogs don't sweat.
Lorita you made a safe spot for your little birdlings.
Judith, all accidents can be serious at our ages! I'm glad you're downstairs now.
Good night.
Iris

Iris, is this another trip with your group? If so, where are you going? Have fun wherever you go.
I hope the padding helps if the little birds fall out of their nest agaIn. This evening I saw her on the nest so all the eggs may not be hatched yet.
I took a two hour nap this afternoon and now can't go to sleep, just lying here thinking about things and what I have to do tomorrow.
Barbara, I know it's daytime where you are so you may be reading. Are you doing okay and still writing? We miss your posts. Let us know how you are when you have time.
Guess I better go to sleep. Want to get up early and open the barn shutters. Will be hot inside tomorrow for the girls and maybe opening them will give more air circulation for them. Good night.

I saw a post in the general caregivers forum earlier from Lady Texan - she and her family are all okay. I'm so glad to hear that!
JeriLynn & Lorita - you two are the best, looking after the birds.
Zetta & Ron - I've been to one of those theaters once (the ones that serve food). This particular theater had huge recliners for us to sit in with little tables next to the chair. You put your food and beverage order in before the movie starts. Then at some point during the movie everything quietly arrives on your little table. It was really nice - although that was the only time I did it.
Zetta - boxcar restaurants sound really fun.
Ron - I'm glad you're starting to get settled in.
Beth - I can't believe your green thumb. I wish I had some of that in me.
Lorita - I've never seen the 301 error message.
Iris - safe and fun travels!
My s.o. just shared a hilarious article with me - it's photos from the T-Rex World Championship Races!! So many laugh out loud photos. It's people in T-Rex costumes running a race, kind of like a horse race but with T-Rex costumes instead. I love the skeleton costume. And this race wasn't all that far away from us! If I had known, I would totally have run in this race. I would have come in dead last, but it wouldn't have mattered!

Glad to see that LadyTexan has posted and is safe with her family. An answered prayer.

I would definitely be there to watch you run, GG. Based on the Michelob banner, I presume there was drinking involved. Good times!

Good morning. Bright and sunny here this morning. We had a powerful storm with lightening and tornado warnings around dinnertime last night. 4" of rain in less than an hour. It wasn't too bad here, but mom's area got hammers and there was considerable street flooding south of her. More storms tonight, but at the moment, it's gorgeous.
Zetta— Box car cuisine? I'm not sure I'm down for that. There's a motel not far from where we were the other day where the "rooms" are all cabooses and the restaurant a dining car. We stayed once; it was ghastly. At the railroad where DS volunteered in high school, several of the men who ran the trust owned their own cabooses which served as their man caves. They were pretty awesome. DS would love to buy one, but the HOA would have issues with it.
Lorita— "301 permanently moved" is an error code to let the user know that the URL for the link has been changed. Sometimes the site will automatically redirect to the new address, sometimes not. This error code is considered "best practices" when a site migrates to a secure URL (https) from one that isn't (http).
Is Thursday finally new refrigerator day?
Gothic G— The T-rex race pictures made my morning.

I'm glad to see Lady Texan and her family are OK. It sounds as if her community was devastated and that will make for shared trauma. This has been heartbreaking reading.
Today is mom's haircut. She's a little miffed that I made it for 2pm instead of noon. She likes to run errands and have ice cream after. I should have enough time to take her food shopping. The weather has been so miserable that she's been stuck inside for almost a week which is not good for her head. I need to run to Kohl's to pick up some mascara but I'll do that before I pick her up.
Friday, she sees her ID doctor. I have no idea what he'll do at that appointment; last time he looked at labs and gave her a lecture on the importance of taking her meds. She's already fetishizing the abs so these chats and pep talks from all her various docs (cardiology, pulmonology, PCP and dentist especially) only make her more anxious. This means her psychiatrist and I spend a lot of time reassuring her and encouraging her to try not to dwell on it. To say I hope he doesn't pull this stunt again would be an understatement. His office is kind of inconvenient to get to which adds to my dread.
Have a pleasant day all.

Morning, thanks HB, all Greek to me. It isn't on my 10" tablet.
It's already hot and humid. I went out st 7:30 to raise the shutters. The new ones are heavier and the way we used to hold them up doesn't work so had to improvise. Got three up so that will help because there's an East breeze and they're on the east side. I was draggin' by the time I came in. Then had to go back out and turn off the water filling the water tank. When it gets cooler I'm see if Gary can figure out a way to raise them easier.
HB, tomorrow is just the day the repairman comes out to see the refrigerator and say it needs replacement. No idea how long it will take to get the new one. When they replaced the AC I think it took at least a month. I won't/can't wait that long. The water it leaked has loosened the tile adhesive so won't put down new ones until this is settled.
I hope everything goes well at the doctor's appointment today. You're so good to your mother. She's so lucky to have a daughter like you.
The Texas flood news isn't good this morning. They say there's at least 160 people still missing. There was flooding yesterday in Sallisaw, near the Arkansas State line. These floods and storms are only going to get worse because of climate change. Our weather pattern has changed so much in the last few years.
Hope everyone is well today. It's 80 degrees now but the heat index is already 99 and it's only 11 a.m.

Good mid morning to you all!
Today is freeze more blackberries and cut okra to freeze. Which means I had to make a WalMart run to buy tubs for the freezer. DH has a habit of just sticking anything ANYWHERE in ANY of the 3 freezers I 1 upright, 1 small fridge and 1 double french door) so that I can never find anything without a treasure hunt. The plus side of that is I'm grateful for the abundance and the ability to share. MY OCD is not happy with the lack of organization. SO… before anything else goes in, I must organize by category and label the tubs.
Today is also cut grass if it doesn't rain day. We spent most of yesterday at the Huntland place to mow, weed eat and spray the pasture, side pasture and side driveway. It was hot. I also cleaned the hallway of the barn, which was littered with paper, drink bottles, popsicle wrappers and various/sundry items out of place. There are 4 families that live on that property, and they treat that barn like their personal storage space. It's huge. There are 7 enclosed stables, a horse washing area, 3 areas with tools, a washing machine, refrigerator and the entire back hallway is storage for lawn equipment that DH works on. Plus the "living quarters" that consists of a living room and a bathroom with a shower. The sink had melted candle wax in it from "littles" that have absolutely no business burning candles and pouring the wax in the sink. To say I was furious would be an understatement. I was calm, but I did communicate with Mother of said children to inform her I would lock the door to the living quarters if this wasn't swiftly addressed.
I sound awful, don't I? I'm really not!!!
I just don't understand folks that behave this way. It is true there has been an extraordinary amount of trauma in that family of children shuffled to DH and his late wife (who did not help the situation) and I try to give a lot of grace for not having anyone to teach them, but these folks are grown and raising their own children. I try to support and model behaviors. I try to talk about having a firm foundation, I recommend counseling, I listen, I really try NOT to boss but to be a resource and a listening ear. I love them and I believe they love me. They call or come by all the time to have "talks in private". I'm afraid I'm too late to the party to make a lasting impression and difference in the live of the great grands if their parents don't see the need to make changes. I'm sorry I'm going on. I'm just so sad and frustrated. AND WHAT message just popped up on my phone but an article entitled: "How to be more patient". I never pray for patience as I believe it brings more trouble for you to be "patient" with.
And Speck the Chicken Girl died yesterday. She had started having trouble walking so I put her in the crate and fed her high-protein and electrolyte foods and molasses water by syringe to no avail. DH buried her for me. I just couldn't.
I am so sorry for just going on and on. With everything in the world that is happening, I am just grateful for this thread. Some days it feels like there is no end to sadness. But there is. Tomorrow.
Tomorrow for the babies lost in Texas. Tomorrow for the ones lost in New Mexico this morning. Tomorrow is sometimes the very best to hope for.
Time to cut grass now. DH has arrived home and pulled my mower to the driveway. I am a PRINCESS you know.
Ron, I'm anxious to see your camper choice!
HB, I think I may be your Mama's twin.
Mint, my tomatoes are awful.
Judith, I am so glad you are up and moving. Be careful now.
What in the world would we do without our friends??
0 -
Sorry for for the loss.of Speck but you did your best for her, JeriLynn, and gave her life for a while. I know you hate to lose any of your animals. I'm the same. I hadn't heard about the floods in New Mexico until I just saw the news. So, floods in NM, Texas and Oklahoma. and now the heat.
We used to grow okra. We tossed it in meal and fried it but also liked to simmer whole, small pods until tender with just a little vinegar in case a pod broke. Never froze it though.
JeriLynn, with all you have going on and all you do, I.don't see how you cope. You're entitled to vent and be frustrated.
Got the kitchen tiles laid back down. After the refrigerator thing is done I will put down new ones. This afternoon I need to take care of charities but I would like to lay down a while. Everyone else is asleep. Looks like our temps will be around 100 beginning Monday. I do not like July and August. Weather says more rain this weekend so humidity will be skyhigh.
Judith, hope you are feeling still better today. Take it easy.

A friend sent me an Instagram link to a man who calculated the amount of water that fell on central Texas on July 4 and determined that it was equal to two days' flow of Niagara Falls. No wonder it was such a disaster!

Almost unbelievable, isn't it? No wonder it flooded.

Lorita. I cleaned the fridge out last week, and was surprised at how much had expired. My daughter did the pantry, and a few things there had also expired. She's real picky about things like that, so we threw a lot of stuff away. I probably would have kept some of the panty stuff. I don't like throwing food away.
No i did not see any message, about 301. Thank you HB, for explaining that t us.
HB. I said boxcar, I should have said coach car. Dinning in a boxcar, would not be any fun. I met to say the coach car, the one with all the windows. I'm so sorry to hear that Speck passed away. Our yoga instructor lost 2 of her chickens, because of the heat. She does her best to keep them cool. Those kids had no right burning candles in your barn, and putting wax in the sink. You have all the right in the world to be frustrated. And how dare them to send you a message about being patient. I would not blame you for locking the barn. We are here for you ❤️ please vent when needed.
It's a hot day here it's 113, right now. I'm getting ready to take a cool bath. We went to yoga last night, we were not looking forward to it, because it was the harder night. My DD and I were the only ones there, so we asked our instructor to do light yoga, and she did, it was nice.
Hugs to all, Zetta

Here is a picture of the camper in bought. I hope to have it set up by next week.
Ron

Ron, that is very nice. I could live in it. Thanks for showing us.

Ron, the camper looks pretty slick. Does it have a shower or do you have to go to your son's house on Saturday nights?
We ate in "boxcars" in Kansas City a couple of times, many years ago. The restaurant was called Victoria Station, and it was built as if several boxcars had been placed together like spokes of a wheel. The Victorian light fixtures were cool, and they served really good prime rib.

Ron, I see the.picture of your travel trailer and said "oh. That's pretty". It is. How.long is it? I'm thinking 20 ft? I'm with Zetta, It would be okay for one to live in, at least for a while.
Zetta, I found things on the.bottom shelf of the refrigerator I had forgotten about. Found a jar of almond butter I had looked for. Threw away quite a few things. Always find expired things in the pantry. I hate to throw away things, too. Sometimes I tend to "save" things until they expire.
I have an appt. Monday st 9:30 for Sheena, Stormy and Lilly. He lets me come in before he starts seeing appointments because Stormy tends to have seizures when he's around lots.of people. Always busy there. It will be for a new kind of allergy shots, ears checked and nails trimmed for Sheena. Stormy is trying to get two hot spots so am using Hexa spray on them. Lilly has allergies with bumps around her neck. Will ask Darwin to help me get Sheena in the car. The last time when we were finished she jumped in the back seat so she can get in if she wants to. They're always ready to get away from there. It may be a bit cooler by Monday. I hope.
GG. There's another episode of Walking with Dinosaurs on tonight. Looking forward to seeing it.
Better stop and get a bite to eat.

Hi from Down under.
Still here. And still writing, so that keeps me busy. Published 3 books about my doggy friend, and another just needs to be edited.
Had long term trouble with a knee replacement, which ached all the time. Saw the Doc who put it in, nothing wrong with it. Eventually saw a pain specialist, who put nerve-block injections above and below the knee! Success! I was so worried about a possible operation to replace of the replacement, but all it needed was 3 injections. Wonderful. That was a couple of months ago, and I am starting to think it might be wearing off. Sure hope not.
Yesterday here was cold and it rained! The biggest fall for months. But our poor farmers are still missing out. Such a difference from all the floods I am hearing about in the US. I have just replanted my plant pots. I had seedlings of lettuce and spinach, but a rat visited, and ate off all the leaves, just left the stalks. Had to replace all the plants. Think I will keep rat bait in the garden all the time from now on.
Just reading about your temperatures warms me up in the middle of winter. But it will be spring in 6 weeks, and things will change then.
Barbara

Here is the inside layout! I should have taken pictures when I was there.

Barbara, you and some other visitors are so productive it makes me think I need to get off the couch and do something! Glad you knee is better.
Ron, that's a perfect studio apartment. You should be real comfortable there.
I thought the big round moon tonight was the full moon, but the calendar says the full moon is tomorrow. I don't know what the July full moon is called, but it's a beaut.
0 -
Barbara, good to see your post. Happy you have found relief from your knee pain. Hope it keeps working. Sounds like you're keeping busy, as usual. Sorry your farmers and ranchers are in a drought. We had a bad one last year along with grasshoppers, and they are back.. Already an inch.long. Take care of that knee.
Ron, that sounds great. Everything in it a person would need. I know you will enjoy it. When do you take possession?
Carl, I'm going to go out and look at the moon. Alexa tells me it's called the Buck Moon.
Good night, everyone. Sleep tight.
0 -
Carl - maybe all the T.rex runners drank after the race - I sure hope they weren't drinking before the race. Did you see the picture of the trophy? Yes, I was coveting that trophy. 😄
HB - What is an ID doctor? "…fetishizing the abs"? Fetishizing the labs? It doesn't sound good, and I hope that all goes well. And I agree with the others - you're a great daughter to do everything that you do.
JeriLynn - Speck!! 🙁 I'm so sorry. You took such good care of her.
And no, you don't sound awful - I think most of us would have the same response. I know I would.
Zetta - 113? I'd be taking a cool bath too! That's just way too hot.
Ron - Your camper is very nice. It looks really well set up. Very livable.
Lorita - I think I'm going to binge watch all of those episodes of Walking With Dinosaurs. I saw some of the trailers for the show, and I am in! We've learned so much more about them since I was in college (in the '80s). It's exciting.
littleme - I hope you don't end up having to do anything more with your knee.
6 weeks until spring for you - I guess that means about 6 weeks until autumn for us. It's a bummer for those of us in the Pacific Northwest because our summers tend to be pretty short. We're lucky if we get two to three months of full sun.
I don't know where you are in Australia, but I've been following the Erin Patterson case - unbelievable.
About cleaning out the fridge - we're generally pretty good about not having too much to throw away. But the pantry items are a different story. If I can't reach it, and therefore can't see it, I kind of forget what's there - until it's too late. Chocolate never goes to waste at our house though. My parents were pretty bad with the fridge - my dad used to call it "the bank".
About the floods: Two days of water flow from Niagara Falls??? That's an insane amount of water. I can't even imagine it. Lorita, I saw that 160 people are still unaccounted for. So very sad.
Tomorrow I'm spending the day with my bestie at her house. I'll get to meet the new kittens! I've seen the many, many photos, and now I'll get to see them in real life. I'll approach them slowly so they can get to know me before I do anything so forward as to pet them. It should be a good day.

Good morning.
Lorita— I am sorry to hear the grasshoppers are back. Fingers crossed it won't be in the same kind of numbers you endured last summer. Good luck with the fridge.
Jerilynn— Just reading about the goings on in Huntland makes me want to smack some sense into them on your behalf. Yikes— kids playing with fire in a barn and clogging pipes with wax? That's next level nonsense.
RIP Speck. I'm sorry. My niece in Indiana lost her "Chief Chick" yesterday as well and posted a tribute to her on Facebook.
Zetta— What a treat for you and mom to have a private yoga session. I love when classes are small and the class can be more individualized to what you want/need from the practice.
Ron— That is a very nice trailer. When will it be set up so you can move in?
I've sometimes mentioned my auntie who had dementia around the time dad did. She was like one of those mildly befuddled patients in the Home Instead ads in that even her delusions were lovely. At one stage, she traveled back in time mentally to when she was a newlywed living in the married student dorms (aka 15' trailers with communal showers/toilets down the path) at Rutgers just after WW II.
Gothic G— Yeah, abs made no sense. It was meant to be abx (antibiotics) for her bacteremia. She's on lifelong Keflex because of her recurrent sepsis in light of her artificial heart valve. If infection were to colonize there, it would be bad. Given her age, replacement would not be an option. ID doc is infectious disease specialist.
Sandy— I am so glad the injections have worked for you. Knee revision surgery can have diminishing returns.
____________________________________________________________________
I was supposed to have a blood draw today, but the orders didn't make it to the lab so I'm enjoying a nice pot of tea. I'll swing by the lab after the crowd thins out this afternoon and ask if they have information I can't access on my end. Unless I can drop in tomorrow, there's no chance the results will be back by Tuesday when I have an appointment with my endocrinologist. He's retiring at the end of the month so we can follow-up via the e-chart.
I took mother shopping after her haircut. We got a battery-operated closet light for her pantry which is very dark and then hit the grocery store "for a few things". She'd written a list but left it home. This shopping excursion for 1 person took 1 hour and 53 minutes. My knee was not happy by this point, so I had a seat in their in-store Starbucks and scrolled on my phone checking in from time to time. At 90 minutes, I went to find her. She said she was ready to check out but on the way to the front of the store she said she'd "come back another time for produce". Ugh. She did wrap it up after that.
With detours in place, my ride home took twice as long and I was so tired when I got there, DH offered to take me out for something to eat.
Be safe out there today.
HB1 -
Good Morning,
I slept until 5 am! All the grass cutting the last 2 days in the heat must have worn me out. I got blackberries put up, did not get to the okra nor the freezer(s) reorganization.
Ron, that is a really nice camper you picked! I'm excited for you.
Thank you all for allowing me to vent. I was very sad and frustrated yesterday. Thanks for listening.
HB, again: you are a saint.
DH just came in from the barn so I'd best get up to see what the agenda for today is. I'll BBL.
