Hospice at home?
mom has Alzheimer’s, stage four or five. Her husband of 71 years is now going into hospice. We are debating on whether to bring him home so she can spend time with him or placing him in a hospice facility. My fear is that my mom will not remember what is going on and having him here will be harder on her than if we had to go visit him in a “hospital”. Any suggestions or ideas on how to proceed? Thank you

Just saw your post. So sorry about your Mom and her husband. I would choose the hospice facility. I know it’s a difficult decision. I doubt she will understand what’s going on with him and it might cause her to be depressed or agitated if he’s home.

I did not quite understand your post regarding where your father is located right now. Is he in a hospital or hospice facility now? If he is not at home presently and you are questioning whether or not to return him home under hospice care or leave him away from home, I would think you have to evaluate how your mother is handling his current absence. If she has accepted his absence and her condition is progressing, you might consider not bringing him home because it will add significantly to the demands for care and cause you to change the routine established for your mother. Visiting him at whatever facility where he is provided care might be a better and more manageable state for your mother and all providing care. Your mothers condition can change course or the pace of the disease at any time without notice so you may not want to risk having them both at home requiring significant care at the same time and your mother trying possibly to intervene or "help". Good luck with a very difficult decision. Balancing love and practicality in this disease can be hard.
