Waking up multiple times a night very agitated and confusedted

I read many posts about spouses sleeping many hours at night and daytime sleepiness. My husband was prescribed trazadone, 150 mg, to help him sleep. It does help him sleep, falls asleep in 5 min or less but only for a 2-3 hrs. He moans and groans then startles awake, appearing scared or confused. When i ask what's wrong he can't explain and often says things that don't make sense. This goes on multiple times throughout the night. Have any of you experienced similar symptoms with your loved ones? If so, did the Dr prescribe anything that helped?

Unfortunately fragmented sleep has been part of stage 6 for my husband. Our doctor prescribed Trazodone but it didn’t work at all for DH. He is now on Seroquel and works best if he takes it during the day also. We are now taking 100 mg, during the day and also before bedtime with a melatonin. Most of the time it helps, but still periods where he still wakes up every couple of hours. Good nights he goes to bathroom and comes right back to bed. Bad nights he is up for an hour or two and puts on multiples of clothing and moves around the house. He does not react to anything I say or do, so I have learned to just keep an eye that he isn’t doing anything unsafe. This week has been one of the bad weeks so hoping it changes again soon.

RetiredTeacher, Yes my DW, by the way is a retired teacher, had the same problem and she was also prescribe Trazodone it worked for a couple of nights. Then after that she was back to waking up every couple of hours all night. Then she was prescribe Seroquel, 25mg 2x a day, and I have to say for the most part it's been a lifesaver. Some nights she may get up a couple a times in the night, but for the most part it works great. There are some nights I have to add Melatonin 3mg. As you know going without sleep is absolutely miserable especially going through what we're going through.

Ty scooters. I'm willing to try anything that may help. My only concern is seroquel kp can cause dizziness and orthostatic hypotension. Does your wife have any problem when she does get up in the night being unstable on her feet or falling?
