Welcome Airedale! I’m new here myself and just getting to know my way around. I’m early 70’s my husband is nearing 80. So many caring and supportive folks here.

I’m in NorCal, about an hour outside of Nevada.

Curious… do you have an Airedale? My constant companion is a GSD.

I had to respond when you said you have a gsd I have two, one that’s 11 and the most recent member is 2.5. The young one is my constant companion. I turned 69 two weeks ago and my husband is 81. I live in Northern California bordering oregon on the coast.

Trottingalong - nice to meet you! My boy, Axel, is 4 and still all puppy. He’s actually a GSD Great Pyrenees cross. Has all the markings of a GSD. With my husband’s declining health it’s comforting to have Axel by my side, especially when he brings on the silly behaviors.

that sounds like a wonderful cross, both great breeds. I feel the same about my girl. She brings me so much comfort.

Have 3 dogs but no longer have the Airdale. He was amazing. Got him from the pound and he was listed as incorrigible but I found him irristable. He wasn't incorrigible just a bit diffiocult for about 3 years and then he was wonderful. Have a BlueTick Hound, a GSD, and a year old yellow Lab. Also had a Cordigan Corgi - Blue Merle fluff that I adored. They are now too expensive to get another one. Husband is in great health except for MCI just diagnosed this month but I suspected it for a couple of years. It isn't home without a dog or 2 or 3. This site is amazing. Thank you. Sounds like we will be journeying together. Am in Verdi.

I can’t imagine not having a dog, especially fond of larger breeds.

This journey, for me, will be easier knowing there are caring along. I’m just outside Placerville and pass through Verdi when heading to Cabela’s. Used to be a favorite activity for my husband, probably time for another trip sooner rather than later.

    Good talking with you.

We will be on this journey together. We also have always had dogs. I can’t imagine not having one. Our old girl turns 11 next month. A very good friend was recently diagnosed with dementia. Her husband of 36 years up and left. She had to leave her home and move in with her daughter in Southern California. She asked me if I would take her dog. I couldn’t say no and she helps me cope more than I could ever have imagined.
