Advice on DH out in public

My DH is resisting sitting down when we go out to eat. He will just stand at the table without moving. After multiple efforts to ask him to sit he will finally cooperate. I would welcome any advice or perspective on how to help him.

He could just not be able to navigate an unfamiliar chair/ table arrangement, or have a peripheral vision issue, or it could be he is getting "stuck", which can be related to certain dementias or even medication side effects. Try making sure he can see the chair and modeling the behavior where he can see you. Carefully. Teepa Snow has a youtube video where she talks about how to get people with Lewy Body unstuck.

I do not mean to sound insensitive. I faced similar challenges with DW and eventually concluded that dining out together is now in our past. It is possible you can find some technique that will get you more quality time inside restaurants. However, I expect that eventually you will need to think hard if dining out is still something both of you can still enjoy.

My DH is increasingly finding it difficult to get in and out of restaurant chairs, booths, most restaurant seating arrangements. We have moved onto getting take-out and going thru the drive-thru. It is what it is.

I didn't have physical problems going to a restaurant with DW, but because she has no short term memory, menus overwhelm her. I eventually figured out I had to say, "How about ordering X? I know you like X." After the server left, DW couldn't remember what she ordered.

I am reluctant to take my DH out to eat as he quite often starts to disrobe. Then gets mad when I tell him to keep his clothes on. Drive-thrus work best for us.
