I just placed my DH/alz in memory care for a 30 day respite. It was a lot of prep work but it went ok. The staff took him to the dining room and I set up his room. I told him the doctors and nurses wanted to monitor his medications for a few weeks. A year ago he would have fussed about it but he just said “Ok”. He does have a roomate and they were polite to each other upon meeting. My plan is to rest and declutter our apartment. I don’t feel guilty( thanks to our forum mate Iris who recently commented about the word guilt)but it does feel weird and the first few years of this journey was very intense and I need to allow myself to heal a bit from all that and be ready to bring him back home. I will go back for a visit in about 4 days and see how it goes. Without this forum I don’t think I could have powered through to make this respite happen and I pray all goes well.
