H.A.B.I.T. Program

Has anyone participated in the HABIT program offered through the Mayo Clinic? Was it valuable? My husband has MCI and I am considering applying for it. I think that the training may be worthwhile, at least to have him interact with others going through the same thing…

it was fantastic, well worth the time and money. It seems long but the time moves very fast. If you can swing it, go. It’s great for both of you. It covers everything you’re wondering about. If you have any way you can go, go. I can’t say enough about it. Friday we are going to a reunion of couples who went to reenforce what we learned.

Thank you so much, it sounds like exactly what we need!

Habit is an excellent program. It has definitely been helpful in helping us with techniques to handle memory loss. My husband regained his ability to complete tasks related to executive function. The couples you go through the program with will become a support team for future online and in person support group meetings. Worth every penny!

I agree. It was an excellent program. I think my husband was a bit too far along to truly benefit but we did learn alot. Unfortunately we participated during COVID so it was virtual. I would have rather been in person. I think we missed out on some things by doing it virtually.

DH and I participated in the program I think it was 2013. I don't think DH really got much out of the 10 days. Also there was no follow up after the 10 days at that time. I did gain information from the program about resources in the community.

I imagine it's hard to get your LO to participate if s/he has anosognosia and insists there's nothing wrong.

We went there for techniques to help with memory loss. Your loved one has to be aware of a memory problem even if he or she is in denial of the dementia.
