Looking for a support group

Hello, all. Just signed up today. My mother is 83 and has had dementia and now Alzheimer's for probably 15 years by now, though the diagnosis of Alzheimer's came about a year ago. I have her in my home two days a week during the day, and have had increasing difficulty managing the stress of her forgetfulness.

So now I'm finally searching for a support group but I'm only finding in person groups in the East Bay area of Northern California that meet during the day, which would interfere with my work and the two days my mother is with me. If there's anyone in the East Bay who has information about a support group that meets after working hours, I'd really appreciate it. I'd be interested in either in-person or online groups.

Thank you in advance.

    Hello Leftbas65.

You are so smart to look for a group. I have attended a few and they have been very helpful to me. In my experience they do tend to happen during the day but I have seen some on weekends and in the evening; I am in the DC area. My regular group just moved from virtual to in person and my work schedule makes it hard to make so I understand some of your challenge.

Have you searched by zip on the Alzheimer’s Assn site under support groups? You might also want to see what your county’s Aging Services department offers; mine has some good emails for caregivers and sometimes I find support groups listed. Local hospitals sometimes also offer programs or helpful resources for caregivers like you.

Take care of yourself and I hope you find a group!
