Bidet Toilet Seat

Has anyone tried a bidet toilet seat with their PWD? I have been thinking of getting a non-electric one (HWD can't use remotes or anything other than an on/off button). I was going to get one for my bathroom and then, if he can figure out how to use it, eventually install one in his. He is still continent, but that could change at any time and I am trying to think ahead about making cleaning up as easy as possible.

I think that just a hand sprayer would be too complicated for him at this point.

IMO this is an invitation to flooding. Lots of people with dementia start fooling with the gadgets in their environment. My mother used to yank at curtain and electrical cords + anything else she felt was out of place

I used one very successfully with my DW, but only after I began to assist her as she was starting to become incontinent. I would take her to the bathroom regularly as a preemptive measure. At that point it became necessary for me to clean her as as she could not understand the concept. A bidet seat was very helpful in getting her clean while she was still seated. It freaked her out a bit as we had never had one before but I would talk her through what was about to happen and that seemed to work. The one I bought was a Brondell S101, about $90.

We have them. I read that if you introduce them while PWD is still functioning pretty well, it can be helpful later on. I bought them and installed them myself ( I am no plumber) 😊on two seats for under $60. I felt it was well worth a try and so far DH likes it.

I have spoken to a couple of friends with bidet toilet seats who have found them to be very good. I also just u tube installation and usage they look simple and clean. I like the idea of getting one before it's too late. Not expensive so very much worth a try. Think I'll put it on my next to do list!!

we’ve had a bidet for years prior to my DH diagnosis of mixed dementia—he’s now late stage 6–still continent—he insists on using the toilet with the bidet when he has to poop.

    Good advice.

My DH loves to stack and move dirty dishes from the sick to the stove—not wash them. This leads to big messes water everywhere, breakage. He is now banned from the kitchen.

Yes, I had a toto washlet installed when I had our bathroom remodelled to accomodate my DH. I have also had the non-electric cheap ones which also are useful. I accompany my DH on all bathroom trips as she is not able to maneuver all the moving parts. I find the bidet useful up to a point. If she's not sitting correctly or doesn't position herself correctly it becomes useless. And for those really messy ones it still isn't going to solve all your problems. But on good days they are very useful for nighttime cleanup before bed if you're too exhausted to shower. And for the shower, a shower hose is a must to really clean them up.

Thank you all for your good comments…I think I'm going to give it a try. I don't have an electrical outlet nearby and will have to figure out how to install it by myself (HWD won't tolerate having a plumber do it because he thinks he can do everything himself…which means me doing it while he yells and criticizes!) so will have to go with the basic, non-electric model and hope the water isn't too cold (I'm in Florida so shouldn't be an issue most of the time). The flooding risk is a concern for me as he frequently leaves the water on in the sinks, but so far doesn't yank at or pull things out...if it turns out to be a problem I'll have to uninstall it, I guess.

    Any more suggestions are welcome!
