Area Agency on Aging assessment

Has anyone gone through a screening assessment with the Area Agency on Aging for Medicaid waiver in Florida? From what I understand, based on your answers you get assigned a priority for the waitlist for the waiver. If anyone has experience with this, I’d appreciate any advice or tips.

it might get help if you posted what state the PWD lives in. Each state manages their Medicaid and the rules can differ. Wonder if the Alzheimer’s toll free number could help?

Thanks for the tips. I added the state to my post.

I do not live in Florida. I found this link in an Area Agency on Aging (Florida) website. The site appears to be governmental but it is .com.
I do not know if this will be helpful, they do not seem to make it easy to find the actual assessment forms.

Hi, Annie.
I am quite new to these discussion boards. A friend told me about Elder Care Attorneys and how they helped her with a Qualified Income Trust (QIT)for her DH. This trust helped her with resources to cover nursing home care. I just recently contacted a firm in my area (NW Florida) and am in the process of scheduling our initial consult. There was a questionnaire I had to complete and quite a few documents they need to review your income and assets - so be prepared. QIT’s are only available to spouses, not children or siblings.
These Elder Care tourneys should be able to help you with power of attorney, wills, trusts, and financial concerns. There are attorney fees, but I feel this may save me financial hardships in the future. To all - I understand the QIT is a federal program intended to help those of us not wealthy enough to be able to afford long term care, yet have too much income to be Medicaid eligible. Most, if not all states should have some type of QIT. It may be worth a call to learn more.
I hope this helps.2 -
I do know that in FL you can have both Medicare and Medicaid if you qualify financially. You can’t have more than $2000 in the bank and you can have one house and one vehicle.
