My DH passed away at age 65 last Saturday, Sept. 27th. I was glad we all got to say our goodbyes before he passed. I now understand stage 8. My days feel like a roller coaster of emotions, but the nights are the hardest. We have been married almost 38 years.

    I hope you find peace in the memories of your good years together. Losing your partner in life is so very hard. But remember that you loved him through one of the hardest challenges life can hand out.

    I am so sad for you! 38 years! What an accomplishment. My DH looks to be in stage 5, and I am learning I have a long hard road ahead of me. We’ve been married almost 52 years.

    Stay connected with us as you work through this stage. I am confident you will find others who can share and offer you ideas on how they moved forward. I hope we see you again.

    You’re in my heart as you deal with this loss. My DH and I have been married 38 years also. May you find peace in knowing the suffering is over and you loved and supported him till the end.

    I am so sorry for your loss. My DH has mixed dementia. Married 45 years, struggling to imagine my life without him. For the first time in my life I have no plans.

    I find the nights difficult too. coupled with my insomnia it can be tough. we are 45 years as best friends. good you got to say goodbye.

    We can know it’s coming and we can mentally try to prepare ourselves, but emotionally we really can never know how difficult it is to lose that person. My thoughts are with you.

    Thank you everyone for your kind words. Our kids have been making sure Im being kind to myself as we all adjust to this. Im happy that he is no longer suffering with this horrible disease, but miss him very much.

    Such deep sadness can only be known after riding the highs and lows together. My DH and I have been married for 54 years and I cannot bear the thought of being apart. My thoughts are with you.
