How get a reputable medical alert bracelet

I read your other post on the "Long Distance" board. You said you were aware of the problems driving with a dementia diagnosis. I will just mention that they are financial and legal issues as well as safety for themselves and others issues. Enough said.

I do not think you need your parents permission to buy these items. However, getting them to use them is a whole other ball game. What is best depends on what you want them to do. 1) Old style medical condition alert bracelet- just lets others know that the wearer has the medical condition listed on the bracelet. They are highly unlikely to wear this. For this purpose use the emergency medical/contact section on their smartphone (if they have one) which emergency medical personnel can access. The old paper list of medications in wallet/purse is also good. If your mom was taking a dementia specific med that would be recognizable and you would not have to actually list that she has dementia. 2)"Help I can't get up pendant" - Again, many people resist wearing these and even if they do they can forget to use them in an emergency. 3) Automatic fall detection band/watches. - If your LO will wear this it is a good option, your LO will not have to do anything. 4)Locator/GPS locator- Helps locate your LO if they get lost or wander. Since your mom is still driving this is very important. She might seem fine and know where she is going and them suddenly, out of the blue, she is two states away or has been driving in circles for hours. My cousin set out for the doctor one day and did not show back up for six hours. Stopped and got gas and only by good luck recognized a street and found the way home. Never drove alone again.

There was another post recently about fall detection watches/locators. It is on the I am a Caregiver board dated Oct 15. On that post they mentioned an apple watch for fall detection and GPS monitoring. Also mentioned was a system called angel sense also a GPS locator, I am not sure if it detected falls. With these you have to have a family member make sure they are getting charged. Locators mentioned where you just change the batteries are Project Lifesaver and air tags. The doctor might mention to your mom that she needs something if you let the doctor know it is becoming an issue. The doctor would be unlikely to have a recommendation for a specific product. As far as I know neither Medicare or Medicare Advantage pays for monitoring on any such device.
