Anxiety building

i am going to visit my mother tomorrow mainly because she needs her wine, she goes though a box wine (34 glasses) every 4 days it's very bad on her part I have tried to intervene but she says she will never give it up. Tried consulting a doctor and my mother refuses any treatment. I have to cover her seat in my car with garbage bags and towels because of the way she smells(cat pee, body odor) also refuses any help she has called the cops on me numerous times for trying to intervene. I did make a few calls about assisted living after reading my responses and they go over what my mom gets in social security payments. I will keep looking. Another hurdle! Stressing out!

I answered your initial thread just now.

That's a lot of alcohol. Has she been diagnosed around her change in cognitive status? I ask because she may have an alcohol-related dementia that might respond to treatment. My dad had mixed dementia; ALZ and Wernicke-Korsakoff's Syndrome. The latter is caused by a Thiamine deficiency related to alcohol use. When dad was diagnosed, he was treated with IV Thiamine and did improve cognitively until he started drinking and his ALZ progressed.

I wonder if your quickest route to getting a handle on this situation would be triggering your mom into a rage and having her transported by ambulance to the ED for transfer to a geriatric psych ward where she could be detoxed safely and medicated for some of her behaviors. A social worker from the unit should be able to help you find an appropriate MCF near you ahead of her discharge.

BTW, the not bathing symptom is a later stage symptom. I suspect mom is further along than you know.

    Some information I found helpful.
