Book: The 36 Hr Day
Greetings all. If you have read this book, what things seemed to stand out or "jump off the page" to you? I have been cherry picking my way through the book and know I have so much to learn. Thank you. Take care.

I'm in the process of reading this. So much information to absorb! My DH is early stage ALZ. There are things we can do now such as an ID tag, a shower wand, as examples. Hoping that if they are in place now when he is still in a relatively good place, he won't object to them. Concentrating on those chapters that are impactful now and will go back to others that will provide me guidance in the future.
One of my take aways was — his brain scrambles what I say and therefore, he acts upon what he thinks I said. It helped to see it in black and white.

one thing that helped me was the info about not showering and the reasons they don’t want to. I took that info and created a plan that worked for awhile. I designated 2 days a week as “our” shower days. Then I got his shower and everything ready. Had a seat in the shower and a hand held shower wand installed. Got all his soap, wash cloth, towel ready. Turned on the water to get the temperature just right. Made sure the bathroom was warm. Then I told him it was shower day and his shower was ready. So much info in that book in easy to understand language.

It is the best book about being a caregiver I have ever read and I have read a few. Often the books are focused on caring for parents rather than spouses. I have done both and they are not the same. I have read the entire book and keep it handy. I use the index to find the topics I am interested in or that might be helpful and read when I need to. I consider my self an experienced Caregiver yet there is so much to learn.
