Declined fast because of other health issues

My DH is 56 with EOA. He had memory issues for about 4 years and was diagnosed this May. And then I discovered this forum and began asking questions. I'm guessing he was about Stage 3-4 a month ago.

He has changed in just one month. He is currently in the hospital for a colitis flare-up and blood clots in his legs. At this point, I don't know if his EOA issues will improve once these healthcare issues are treated, or if his EOA took a permanent nose dive.

In just one month, his speech is different, he needs my help changing his clothes, he's not interested in showering, he won't eat, he can't remember things said about a minute prior, he's grumpy, he called me at midnight thinking it was the daytime, and so forth. He has some Stage 5 symptoms.

I don't know if I'm sharing advice here to watch for and be careful of other health conditions or if I'm asking if EOA can decline this fast.

    I can only speak from my experience and DH has AD and not early onset. He was hospitalized in January and was really confused and anxious/agitated first few days until his PCP added Depacote and Aricept to his medicines. He did get better, but never back to his former level of cognition.

    In January 2025 I was starting to come to grips with DH’s dementia diagnosis. The doctor said it was ‘mild’ in spring 2024. My guess, stage 4. After hospitalization I feel DH moved into stage 5 where I think he is today.

    It is good you are keeping track of changes you notice. Being with DH 24/7 you’ve become not only the ‘expert’ but also his best advocate. This is tough, frustrating, and sad work, but we would want the same support if we were in their shoes. No greater love!

    EOAD can progress more rapidly than late onset. However there is really no way to tell how it will progress due to many variables. I hope his other health issues are resolved and he returns to baseline. Come here often and let us know how he’s doing. 🙏💜
