Security system

Hello I’m new to the community. My father was diagnosed 2 years ago with ALZ. This past he has had a rapid decline in cognition and I need to set up door alarms and locks. Does anyone have a recommendation? I am pretty tech inclined. Was looking at Simplisafe VS. creating a piecemeal system. Any suggestions welcomed! Thanks in advance

I'm interested in this, too. I'v been thinking of a low tech solution like a lock or perhaps an alarm with a lock.

No specific recommendations, but think about the purpose of the system. Are you using it to monitor from a distance, somewhere away from the home? Are you going to be in the home but not always with LO? We had three outside doors and it was very helpful when the system announced which one was being opened. As for locks, this can be a safety issue. There always needs to be someone there with easy access to a key or knowledge of the keypad code. What is often done is a simple hook and eye latch above the LOs line of sight, as PWD tend not to look up.

Tech has its limitations. While it can assist a caregiver in maintaining safety, it cannot replace human supervision.

Does your dad live alone or spend part of the day home alone?

Here's what I have and find it to be sufficient. We've had an ADT alarm system for a number of years that has a chime option. Whenever the door opens you hear the chime. I would imagine they make easy things for this without having to go full system. Second, I found a cheap motion detector on amazon. At night or anytime they are sleeping somewhere and you want to do something in another room you set the transmitter down somewhere like just under the bed and when they get up the reciever belts out a tune of your choice. Cost me like 30 bucks. I use it at night when we both go to sleep. Last, if you use an iphone and you have airpods (which I highly suggest because they can be noise cancelling too for when you're sitting next to them and they won't stop babbling) - you can turn your phone into a monitor. Leave the phone in the room where they are and walk around with your airpod. As for locking doors etc., I had this thought too early on but it hasn't proved to be necessary. If that does become necessary then you've got other problems to consider if they are actively trying to escape.
