Hello I'm new here. My mom has Alzheimer's and is stage 5 with a little 6. I had to move her in with me a few months ago as living independently became too difficult. I'm struggling with my sense of loss of my independence having to be caregiver for her. I plan to check out a nearby nursing facility that has an all female Alzheimer's unit, I will need to get her on Medcaid for this. I just don't know if now is the right time. They do have respite care too but it's expensive.

Hi and welcome. I am sorry for your reason to be here but pleased you found this place.

I would reach out to the facility asap. They may be able to help you with the Medicaid application process and get her on their waitlist for a Medicaid bed. Nicer facilities that take Medicaid typically have a waiting list for the Medicaid beds they have and will prioritize those residents who have been self-pay as their assets spend down so there could be a considerable wait.

welcome. I would start the process as harshbuzz recommend and get on a waiting list if they have one. Meanwhile check with your Agency on Aging and your county for senior day care to give you a break.
