seroquel question
For those people who have found success with seroquel, what dosage are you using and how often is it administered? We started on 25mg once a day to treat agitation. We saw no effect and moved up to 50mg once a day. We found some success with that dosage and have been on 50mg once a day for about 8 months. Lately the agitation has increased and I am wondering if I should consider changing the dosage. DW PCP acknowledges that treating agitation with medication is a trial and error process and seems willing to try adjustments.

Hello, my DH is taking 50mg @ bedtime. That plus gummies helps regulate agitation.

I found success at 25mg after lunch for sundowning. Then anther 25mg or eventually 50mg after dinner for an easy bedtime and good sleep. Always served crushed in choc pudding or applesauce. We both had the treat but only hers had the seroquel. Rick

DH started at 25 mg at lunch and 50 mg before bed. As he moved to end stage, and had agitation, the hospice nurse recommended 50 mg at lunch and 100 mg before bed. The agitation improved, and I have not observed any additional cognitive or physical decline.

my DH started at 25mg am and pm. After 1 yr, went to 50mg am and pm for about another yr. Now it seems to work the opposite - more agitation and anxiety after taking it. He has a Drs appt in Dec, so I will find out if an increase in dosage is necessary.
I’m wondering if he’d be better without the Seroquel and just take the Lorazepam twice a day since they can’t be taken together???
Managing these medications with success is quite the challenge!3 -
Has anyone noticed any side effects from taking Seroquel/QUEtiapine like tremors? DH's neuro thinks it's causing the hand tremors thus lowered the dosage, which seems to have reduced the tremors. Sadly, agitation started happening again and neuro refuses to increase it back. It doesn't matter anyway because DH is now refusing to return to the higher dosage. So frustrating.

No side effects that I am aware of … definitely no tremors.

No tremors here. If there are side effects, I am very grateful DH does not have violent delirium in the middle of the night for me to have to run with our pup to lock myself in my home office in terror.
DH is stage 7 on hospice and mostly bedridden except for 6 hours/day in his wheelchair or recliner. And I still have all the knives hidden!

@Timmyd 50 mg/day is a pretty low dose. I would have no trouble asking for a higher dose.

There is a study showing 100 mg/day is no better than placebo and 200 mg/day led to improvements in agitation.
My DW's agitation was finally controlled with 75 mg three times a day. It definitely is a trial & error process and like any medicine, you want to be on the minimum effective dosage.
