Morning, welcome to December! Carl and Ron, it's 32 here, mostly drizzle but it's icy in Tulsa and snow North of there. Lots of accidents and backups in Tulsa. If you get out today, please be careful. I have no plans to be out, maybe on the front porch to feed the birds. I saw a few on the porch looking for food yesterday. Rusty will be hungry, too, even though there are lots of black walnuts on the ground. Back later.

GG, thanks for sharing "While my guitar gently weeps" with Prince, Steve Winwood, Tom Petty and George Harrison's son. It was fantastic! Eric Clapton was once asked, "What is it like to be the world's best guitarist?" he replied, "I don't know. Go ask Prince."

Weather is the story here. The snow began Friday afternoon late. By Saturday morning we had 5 or 6" of snow. It continued to snow all day Saturday. We went out around 8:30 a.m. to blow snow and shovel, and again at 9:45 a.m., and again at 1 and 4 pm. We cleared what snow was there, but it continued with a steady stream. We ended up with around 9". Sunday the driveway was relatively clean, except for ice - snow had melted to slush and refroze. That was fun (not) trying to remove the ice. We could get another inch or two today and it was 16 degrees when I got up this morning. An inch or two should be easy to remove, comparatively!

Today is phone call day. Called regarding a dr appointment, also Lands' End return and will call Viking tours and several companies to inquire about getting a handrail installed on our porch. Had one bid already, $3900! Nope!

    Take care, stay warm.

Good morning. How is it December already?

The plumber has already been and gone. He'll shoot me an estimate tonight. Fingers crossed.

DH is at the dentist and probably won't believe me. I checked my neighborhood Facebook page to ask for a plumber rec and noticed the lady on the corner had posted the same last night. She got several names including the Stooges who did my tub install. One name was recommended by a Realtor with a good reputation, so I called this morning. Turns out, he was doing the repair for my neighbor and was able to stop by 15 minutes after the call.

I need to shower as mom has a post-hospital appointment this afternoon.

    Livin' the dream.

I forgot today was a new month so a new Friends thread, and I posted on the November thread.

Anyway, Ron, is Missouri flat or does it have mountains? Your land looked flat to me.

Beth, was that a snowstorm or regular snow? It'll be 70-75 here today with clear blue skies.

Iris, I used to make all my clothes, even a pair of pants for Charles. In the sixties all the women I worked with did the same. We would work all day, stop by the fabric store on the way home for matetial, make the garment and wear it to.work the next day. Sewing relaxed me- not now though. I found a.big popcorn can full of old patterns in the closet. Hate to get rid of them but will never use them again. Material and patterns got very expensive plus all the.notions.

iris, the Ozarks go up into Missouri from Arkansas. Not sure about where Ron is.

UPS just delivered the Lindt truffles -two bags of 50 each-Will give one bag to Donna and Darwin. Always do. QVC is showing Muk Luks cabin socks!! Love those.

Lorita, we were provided with muk-luks when I was on military active duty in Alaska, they were WARM!

You ladies were very creative, to make a dress one night and wear it the next day. People dismiss homemaking nowadays, but women carried their households in making clothing and household items, cooking and baking from scratch, bearing and caring for children and even animals and growing their own food. Whew, I'm worn out just thinking about all of this work. I need a nap. 🙂

Iris, the farm is on top of a mountain! According to son if the weather is to bad forget about going out. The drive is on gravel roads winding curves and hills in order to get to hwy 65, after that roads stay pretty clear. One of the first things I did was buy all condition tires for my car.

Ron, I agree, don't drive on gravel roads on a mountain in wet or icy weather!

It is surprising, but in central Alaska, in the winter, the roads are clear of snow. Not at all like in NY, where I grew up, where snow could last for days or weeks on the ground if it wasn't removed. In fact, the snow plows would come along and pile snow upon whatever cars were still parked on the street. Your car was buried unless you got out a shovel and dug it out. I lived in an apartment with underground parking, so I didn't have that problem overnight. But if it snowed while I was at work, I had a bit of work to do before I could drive home. I don't miss those days, now that I live in sunny California.

When we were working and had a 50 mile round trip we put on studded tires. I have knobbies on the PU but just road tires on the car. If it snows much our east-west roads get drifted in. We have had to try three different ways to get home in the past because of drifted roads. We sometimes.have to wait two or three days until they open roads. Darwin has broken out our road a couple of times.but he sold his tractors. Ray, my neighbor to the South has tractors and Mike probably has one closeby. It can get hairy out here.

Beth - I hadn't heard that quote by Eric Clapton - that's a great quote. Thank you for sharing it That video of everyone doing While My Guitar Gently Weeps makes me happy every time I hear/see it. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were always favorites of mine, and I loved Prince enough to brave seeing him at a stadium show for the Purple Rain tour back in the day. Seeing them together on that stage was just magical - plus, the song is amazing all by itself.

All of that ice and snow does not sound fun.

HB - I'm with you - how is it already December? I'm not ready for this.

Iris - I'm so jealous of your 75 degree weather! It's overcast here in the PNW. And it'll be overcast until about April. Except when it rains, then it'll be darker. 😄

This morning when I went out to go to the gym it was 34 degrees, pretty much like walking into a refrigerator. But you guys all know about that cold, I'm just a weather wimp.

Lorita - The foot exercises article was from me. I'm reposting it here: 6 feel-good exercises to alleviate sore, achy feet.

As for me, today was 'get back to work' day, so I did. Gym was also really good today - hard workout. I did sumo squats with a barbell with 70lb of total weight, and then 'windshield wipers'. You lay flat on the floor and hold a barbell (for me it was the same amount of weight as the squats) above your head. Holding it like that kind of anchors you to the ground so you're nice and solid. Then bring both legs up and try to touch one end of the barbell. Then lower your legs and swing them both up to the opposite side of the barbell. Do that 10 times. It kind of looks like a windshield wiper. Then we did a half hour of boxing. I earned my shower today (that's how I think of it).

Thank you for the IInk GG. Sorry.I forgot who posted it. Your workout sounds awfully hard. You are one strong lady to lift that much weight plus all that goes with it.

I'm ready for bed so will say good night, sleep well.

    Good morning,

I left in plenty of time for my MRI, so now I’ll sit out here and listen to good music.

This southern boy doesn’t understand these Missouri drivers. I understand they are out clearing roads, but in a 65 speed limit you shouldn’t be driving 80 right after a snow.

I’m going to check with ultrasound while I’m here to see if they have isn’t canceled today where I don’t have to make another trip. I got a call yesterday setting me up for a ultrasound at 11 due to the clogged arteries in my neck.

    Good morning!

Ron, I don't understand the drivers going way too fast when the roads are icy. I drive like a little old lady when it snows! I've put a vehicle in a ditch on an icy road before. One of my scariest winter driving incidents was when I was driving on the freeway to work many years ago and the car started sliding uncontrollably toward the guard rail. I'm so thankful the car stopped short of the guardrail. So my advice for winter driving is this: if you don't have to go out in it, don't. If you must drive slowly but not too slowly because that aggravates other drivers and they pass you and may end up causing an accident. Watch overpasses and bridges - sitting up in the air, they don't get the warmth from the ground and they can be icy even when roads are not.

Ron, I hope your tests are good. I'm sorry you don't feel well. I said a prayer for you.

Lorita, be careful if you go out to feed the birds. A slip and fall can mean broken bones! Or worse. Years ago, my mom fell her unheated garage and laid there for 2 or 3 days before someone discovered her. She wasn't badly injured, but she was unable to get up. Please be careful and wear your medic alert. I'm glad you and Darwin check on each other.

Iris, we did indeed have a winter storm last weekend. One northern city got 15" of snow! More snow in the forecast but not heavy amounts. I guess (the precipitation) is helpful to our drought situation. And the kids enjoy sledding. Sunny California sounds amazing. I always have a bit of a fear of leaving my house empty during the winter time. We do turn the water off whenever we leave for a vacation, to prevent flooding should the pipes freeze.

HB, glad the plumber was able to get over to give you a bid. Hoping DH's dental appointment went well. Are you liking your new dentist? Is the new crown ok? I recently went to the dentist and had a new retainer made - I had braces as an adult and have continued to "protect my investment."

Judith, how is you decluttering/organizing coming? I need to do some, ie, go through photos and give some to the kids and perhaps get rid of others. I know when we cleaned out my mom's home she had many photos - lots were vacation pics - vacations I never took personally so they meant nothing to me.

I didn't know what Muk Luks are so looked them up. Those socks look warm! They have some cute Christmas socks too. I walk around the house with just socks, or my Koolaburra by Ugg clog slippers. I have 5 pairs of those slippers; I alternate them day by day so they don't wear out too quickly.

GG, you were so lucky to see Prince!!! I've been to many concerts but not him: REO Speedwagon, Bread, Reba, Vince Gill, Faith & Tim, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Elton John (the GOAT), George Strait, John Michael Montgomery, The Who, The James Gang and others. I spoke with Tommy Bolin of The James Gang on the phone and he invited me to party with him; thank goodness I passed. I was a naive little 19 year old.

GG, your gym day was a WOW! Good for you!

I shall end this for now. Have a good day!

Ron, I'm glad you made it down there in one piece. I don't explain the driving. Maybe Ron White had it right when he said "You can't fix stupid." I hope the doctors can find something to help you after all those tests you're getting.

GG, I used to be pretty strong but I never was as flexible as you are.

Iris, I'm sorry you aren't sleeping well. I'm back on my exercise program, including chair chi yesterday, and am sleeping better.

All of us need to be careful of snow and ice. One of my uncles died from a fall on his own front steps, going out to get his mail against his wife's advice. His last words were: "I'm the man of this house and I'm going to get my mail."

It's 25 degrees this morning and there's snow on the grass, but the streets are dry. I'm going to go eat and exercise at the senior center. TTYL

    Good Morning Everyone!

I swear last week was so busy I barely had time to read each day! We cooked a Thanksgiving meal to deliver to Scottsboro, had my daughter and her 2 daughters and the great grand Tksg Day and drove up to Huntland for Tksg. with that crew. All in all we cooked 3 hams, two turkeys, dressing, corn casserole, Jesus eggs, more veggies and 5 loaves of bread. I was cooked myself. Throw a visitation and a funeral in and that was my week.

This week is a little calmer. It's cold, rainy, windy and dreary. Nighttime temps in the high 20's.

Almost finished with Christmas shopping, now to wrap and do $ cards and birthday cards for the month.

The goats, dogs and cat are all fine.

DH has been to the dentist today and returns tomorrow for another appointment. Poor fella.

Everyone be safe in the weather. I'm saving Missouri for a visit in the Springtime. I don't think I could take all that snow. Maybe we should all go visit Iris where it's warm, lol.

Wishing each of you well, along with your families.

Back home and don’t plan on going back out anytime soon. I went in today for a MRI and hearing aid adjustment and mentioned I was coming back tomorrow for ultrasound and a ct scan had been ordered, but no one has scheduled it. Guess what? All four was done! Guess it pays to mention things sometimes.

Hi, as usual you have been busy, JeriLynn. Good that all the animals are well. The girls stood still for a long time this morning warming up in the sun before going out to graze.

Ron glad you got all your tests done and had a safe trip.

It's a beautiful sunny, chilly day here and will Be tomorrow until another cold front comes through tomorrow evening. Haven't done diddlysquat today. Max and I just took a nap.

Carl, how much snow did you have? Hope your lunch and chair chi went well.

I need to go to the mailbox and see if they did send someone to pick up he trash they didn't get yesterday.

Sandy, hope you are doing some better and have gotten an appt. date. Back later.

Mint, are you planning to do much gardening next spring? We were always.anxious to get our seed catalogs and to plan what and where we were going to plant things. I sort of miss gardening but it was a lot of work and fulfilling. We had our biggest garden in what used to be our chicken yard so it made good. I really miss those happy days. Sometimes it isn't much fun to grow old and be alone but there are memories.
