Hospice
It has happened. My DW has qualified for hospice. She lost 12 lbs in the last two months and can’t bathe herself anymore. That’s why she qualified, not because she is 6 months from dying or anything. Thought that might help some folks to know. Honestly though, I don’t see her making it to 2027.
I am both a wreck and incredibly relieved to have a better medical team around her. They’re already better at managing the medications than my geriatric psych was.
But, damn. I’m back to crying a lot.

I’m glad you have a more supportive Team around you. Hospice also has Respite options and often, trained Volunteers available to sit with your loved one. But, I understand the tears.
I will tell you I often visited with my patients and families on my days off AND I always gave them my personal cell phone number in addition to the On Call phone. Big hugs to you ❤️

I'm so sorry @CindyBum . I understand why you're a wreck, but just know that your DW will have more eyes on her, and will get more attentive care. There really is a full hospice team, and if your team is anything like my team was for my sister, they will be there for you and your DW when you need them.
@JeriLynn66 you're the best.

Hospice is a mini cavalry. I’m sad for you, for all of us who need them. Hugs

@CindyBum I’m sorry your wife’s journey has reached this point but glad for both of you that she’ll have additional support. Big Hugs

Sorry your DW qualified for Hospice but at the same time happy you have their support. My DH has had hospice for 18 months now and at first they handled all medications and bathing etc. As things have now progressed the past month or so, they are at our house more often and have gone out of their way to support me as well. I wouldn’t be able to continue to care for my DH at home without the Hospice team. I know they will do the same for you.

I am sorry you have reached this point in your journey but I am glad you have the help of hospice. Most people wait too long to ask for a hospice evaluation.

I have been following your journey but didn't expect this. I am so sorry for the pain you have, but like others, grateful for the care and support you will receive. Some days I wish DH would qualify so that he'd have more eyes on him. You are an amazing partner and caregiver

All of your posts are invaluable and they reflect the truly wonderful caregiver you are. I’m glad you’re getting help but so sorry it’s come to this. Love,strength and many hugs coming your way💜

I'll always regret not having my mother evaluated for Hospice care sooner than I did. My DH likely qualifies for hospice care. He stopped being able to bath himself at least 3 years ago but now he is incontinent, walks with a shuffle and has a great deal of difficulty talking.
Hospice care is a good thing. It sounds scarier than it is.

Thank you all for the wonderful support. I appreciate each and everyone one of you.

Cindy I hope the Hospice care extends to offer you some much needed and deserved supports. When I read on here it is often the little things we haven't yet considered that are much appreciated I hope they bring a bag of "tricks" that make a true difference to you and your DW.

CindyBum, you did the right thing. I just posted something about hospice before seeing this. It’s good to see all the positive comments here and I too am glad I now have it. I’ve just got some mixed results I’m working through.
